AMB in Stuttgart. Since 1982, the AMB has been the meeting point for the most important players in the metalworking industry every two years. The focus is on products, technologies, innovations, services, and concepts that move and
further develop the industry. Highlights of the trade fair include the Höfler Gear Grinding Machine VIPER 500 and the Klingelnberg Precision Measuring Center P 40 with automation. Another focus is on digital solutions such as Smart Factory and Smart Tracing.
HÖFLER VIPER 500: Flexible Gear Grinding Machine for Individual Requirements
With the Höfler Gear Grinding Machine VIPER 500, Klingelnberg offers a solution characterized by flexibility and efficiency. The machine is designed for component diameters up to 500 mm and is ideal for small to medium batch sizes. Thanks to its modular design, the VIPER 500 is available in three different configurations: profile grinding with small grinding wheels for special tasks and multi-wheel technology (K), cylindrical grinding (W), and a combined variant (KW). Notably, in the VIPER 500 W / KW configuration, both profile grinding and continuous cylindrical grinding can be performed on the same machine – with minimal setup times.
New: Quick-change adapter solution for internal grinding arms

The smallest representative of the internal grinding arms, the 'VGS8', has recently been equipped with an innovative quick-change adapter solution. The grinding wheel bearing is now integrated into an adapter that can be attached to the housing with minimal effort. The grinding wheel change no longer takes place in the machine but comfortably on the workbench – under optimal conditions. Subsequently, the newly equipped adapter is securely and precisely mounted in the housing. With two alternately used adapters, setup times can be minimized.
The VIPER 500 also impresses in terms of energy efficiency: Through recuperation and demand-controlled units, energy consumption is optimized and operating costs are sustainably reduced. The VIPER 500 has been a staple in gear manufacturing for years and stands for proven technology in demanding applications.
KLINGELNBERG P 40: Precision Measuring Center for Maximum Safety and Precision
As an indispensable component for stable and quality-assured manufacturing processes, the fully automatic, CNC-controlled Precision Measuring Center P 40 makes a significant contribution to process reliability. The compact device is designed for workpieces with a diameter of up to 400 mm and allows for precise inspection of gear tooth profiles, cutting and shaping wheels, screws and worm gears, cylindrical cutters, bevel gears, as well as general dimensional, form, and positional deviations on rotationally symmetrical workpieces. Furthermore, the P 40 is also suitable for measuring cam and crankshafts as well as rotors.
At AMB 2026, the P 40 will be presented in combination with a robotic arm that enables automated loading and unloading of workpieces. This realizes a continuous, efficient, and operator-independent measuring process – an important step towards fully automated manufacturing.
Thanks to integrated temperature compensation, the Precision Measuring Center delivers reliable results even at ambient temperatures of +15 °C to +35 °C – directly in production. The fast and precise measurement capture is supported by a highly accurate workpiece rotary table. Various measurement tasks such as coordinate, form, gear, and roughness measurements can be performed in just one setup.
The versatile, scanning 3D probing system with digital measurement capture in all coordinate directions ensures the highest accuracy and low tolerances. The simple, graphical programming environment and intuitive software operation concept enable comfortable handling. The quick availability of measurement results leads to significant time savings in the production process.
Data Driven Quality Management: The Future of Production

Data Driven Quality Management (DDQM) is considered a key technology for the future of production. The focus is on the consistent use and networking of all relevant production data with the aim of specifically controlling, increasing, and continuously optimizing the end quality of the workpieces. A comprehensively understood DDQM enables early identification of problems in manufacturing and proactive countermeasures. This allows reaction times within production to be drastically reduced – even before the workpieces leave the production hall. Quality is no longer only checked at the end but actively managed throughout the entire production process.
DDQM includes a collection of modern software tools, some of which are directly integrated into the machines. Relevant process and quality information is automatically transmitted from the machine to a web solution and made available via a browser application. Based on this data, manufacturing processes can be analyzed in detail, targeted adjustments can be made, and sustainable optimizations can be achieved. Data Driven Quality Management thus connects production and digital intelligence – for more efficient processes, higher productivity, and permanently improved quality in manufacturing.
Smart Tracing: Transparency and Efficiency for the Manufacturing of Tomorrow
With Smart Tracing, a web-based software is available that comprehensively analyzes the behavior of CNC machines of all kinds – from machining centers to complex manufacturing systems – with the most common controls. By uploading, managing, and evaluating time series data in conjunction with relevant process and performance data, control, regulation, and contour deviations, as well as other performance indicators, are made visible. This enables targeted recognition and assessment of cause-effect relationships of both individual machines and entire production lines.
High-frequency recorded signals can not only be analyzed with Smart Tracing but also archived, compared, and checked for tolerances. This allows disturbances, vibrations, stiffness changes, and process deviations in the manufacturing process to be identified early. The software thus supports predictive maintenance and significantly contributes to the optimization of production processes – and not only for Klingelnberg machines.
