From May 20 to May 23, 2025, the traditional factory and Turn & Mill competence center will open its doors to present 21 high-tech machines and their functions within the framework of Machining Transformation (MX) on an exhibition area of around 1,600 m². Highlights of the exhibition include the NLX 2500|700 2nd generation with CELOS X, the CTX beta 450 TC with integrated loading and unloading device, and the DMU 60 eVo 2nd generation for high-dynamic 5-axis simultaneous milling. In addition, numerous automation solutions will be showcased, including the Robo2Go in different variants, the modular pallet handling PH Cell 800, and the WH Cell 25 as flexible workpiece handling. DMG MORI completes the program of its open house with exciting presentations and workshops on pioneering trends in process integration, automation, and programming. Factory tours through the Turn & Mill assembly also offer an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the traditional factory. DMQP partners such as HAIMER, Fuchs, Horn, and SolidCAM inform visitors about their innovative solutions for the entire periphery of machine tools.

Turn & Mill solutions for the future

DMG MORI Bielefeld has long since developed into the competence center for turning-milling processing within the group. A well-thought-out product portfolio impressively underscores this position. The CLX TC series offers an easy entry into turning-milling processing with the known B-axis factor – a clear added value compared to conventional turret lathes. The CTX TC models take it a step further: With 360° technology integration at the highest level, they enable turning, milling, gear cutting, grinding, and measuring in one working space. This is complemented by powerful 5-axis simultaneous machining. The Bielefeld site also shows itself to be a driver of innovation in automation: The Robo2Go series offers a flexibly deployable and intuitively operable automation solution for small and medium batch sizes. Digital tools are increasingly coming into focus as part of holistic manufacturing solutions. 3D Shopfloor Programming, OP Workbench, and numerous exclusive DMG MORI technology cycles simplify the creation of demanding NC programs – efficiently and practically.

As a traditional production site of DMG MORI, Bielefeld offers the perfect environment for an open house that showcases much more than modern machine tools. Here, personal exchange is at the center: Experts from development, sales, service, and of course application technology are available to customers for intensive discussions – to answer questions, develop ideas further, and open new perspectives. 'Our goal is not just to present innovations, but to develop the best solutions for their manufacturing together with our customers,' emphasizes Harry Junger, Managing Director of DMG MORI Bielefeld. 'That’s why we see the open house as an ongoing invitation – for continuous dialogue and constant inspiration.'

The NLX 2500|700 rethought

The completely revised NLX 2500|700 2nd generation sets new standards in the 6-sided complete machining of workpieces up to ø 366 x 708 mm. Image: DMG MORI

The completely revised NLX 2500|700 2nd generation sets new standards in the 6-sided complete machining of workpieces up to ø 366 x 708 mm. The Y-axis of +/- 60 mm, its excellent thermal stability, and increased turning and milling performance make the new development the ideal choice for demanding manufacturing tasks. The centerpiece is the powerful MASTER spindles with up to 1,273 Nm torque, complemented by an optionally scalable counter spindle.

The integrated BMT turret with up to 20 tool stations, 12,000 min-1, and 100 Nm guarantees the highest productivity – supported by robust sliding guides in all axes. In the process, the GREENMODE system reduces energy consumption, while optimized solutions for coolant and chip management ensure maximum process reliability. With a plug & play automation interface and the new ERGOline X control panel, the machine is also perfectly equipped for automated series production – intuitively, efficiently, and uncompromisingly powerful.

The CTX beta 450 TC

The CTX beta 450 TC stands for user-friendliness, efficiency, technology, and flexible automation options. This makes it the ideal companion for the production of the future. The new generation of controls with CELOS X enables simple, app-based seamless workflows and offers the operator innovations such as the OPWorkbench for easier and structured NC programming.

5-axis simultaneous machining, 5-in-1 technology integration, and 6-sided complete machining also ensure precision, flexibility, and productivity. The working space accommodates workpieces with a diameter of up to ø 400 mm and a length of up to 1,100 mm. The bar passage is ø 76 mm or optionally ø 102 mm for main and counter spindle. The centerpiece of the new model is the turning-milling spindle compactMASTER with a speed of 15,000 min-1 as standard and 20,000 min-1 as an option. The main and counter spindle reach speeds of up to 5,000 min-1 and a maximum torque of 720 Nm. The high performance of the CTX beta 450 TC is also reflected in the rapid traverse speeds of up to 50 m/min.

The DMU 60 eVo 2nd generation

With the DMU 60 eVo 2nd generation, DMG MORI sets new standards in 5-axis universal machining and a milestone for precision and productivity. Based on the unique table kinematics, the proven machine concept has been fundamentally further developed to meet the increasing demands for accuracy, dynamics, and flexibility. Therefore, the DMU 60 eVo 2nd generation successfully serves the concept of Machining Transformation (MX) from DMG MORI: The machine integrates manufacturing processes such as milling-turning, gear milling using gearSKIVING technology cycle, and grinding. This process integration transforms the DMU 60 eVo 2nd generation into a multifunctional machining solution that can flexibly adapt to various requirements and industries and fully exploit the potential of future-oriented machining technology. Intelligent automation solutions optimize machine utilization around the clock as needed. Modern control options – a SINUMERIK One and a HEIDENHAIN TNC 7 – on CELOS X pave the way for Digital Transformation (DX).

Transformation of CNC manufacturing

The machines showcased at the Bielefeld in-house exhibition and the comprehensive accompanying program represent what DMG MORI is driving forward with Machining Transformation (MX): the future of manufacturing. The guiding principle is based on four collaborative pillars: process integration combines technologies such as turning, milling, grinding, and measuring in one machine. Visitors can experience live how lead times are reduced and product quality is increased at the CTX beta 450 TC and the NTX 500. Automation solutions that enable 24/7 manufacturing and maximize spindle run times are demonstrated, for example, by the Robo2Go with pallet station at the former turning-milling center and a PH Cell 800 at the DMU 85 monoBLOCK 2nd generation. Process reliability through sensor-based solutions is a prime topic of Digital Transformation (DX). CELOS X widgets visualize technology cycles, while the MPC (Machine Protection Control) protects the machine – a perfect synergy of process integration and ease of use. The focus on these three pillars also promotes the fourth, the Green Transformation (GX) towards sustainable and economical production. Additionally, DMG MORI reduces the CO₂ footprint of manufacturing with energy-efficient components such as the adaptive coolant supply.
