Users in demanding industries such as Medical, Automotive, and Energy will benefit from a larger spindle range and improved spindle performance – both in high-torque heavy machining and precision machining. The NLX 2500|1250 2nd generation accommodates workpieces up to 1,258 mm long with a diameter of 366 mm. The left and right spindles, a turret with driven tools, an extended Y-axis with +/- 60 mm travel, and a tailstock make the machine a highly flexible manufacturing solution for 6-sided complete machining of complex workpieces.

Both the left and right turnMASTER spindles have been significantly improved in terms of performance. On the left, 10” and 12” large spindles are available. The former reaches 5,000 min-1, a torque of 843 Nm, and a power of 26 kW. The larger spindle achieves 3,000 min-1, 1,273 Nm, and 36 kW. For the right side, three spindles of 6”, 8”, and 10” are now available. The smallest variant operates at 7,000 min-1 and 95 Nm.

The newly added largest spindle reaches 5,000 min-1 and a high torque of 577 Nm. With an average lifespan of 20 years in mind, DMG MORI has redesigned the compact MASTER spindles and revised both ball and roller bearings. Additionally, the bar passage has been increased to ø 105 mm on both sides, while the spindles operate with a roundness of 0.5 µm.

turretMASTER with up to 12,000 min-1 or 100 Nm

The versatility of the spindle range continues with the selection of turrets. As standard, the NLX 2500|1250 2nd generation is equipped with a BMT60 turretMASTER, which provides space for twelve driven tools. Additionally, there is a BMT60 with ten, a BMT40 with 20, and a VDI40 turretMASTER with twelve stations. The driven tools operate at speeds of up to 12,000 min-1 or – in the case of the BMT60 with ten stations – a torque of 100 Nm, giving the NLX 2500|1250 2nd generation milling capabilities of a machining center. DMG MORI provides a 36-month warranty on all turretMASTER.

Stable construction, thermal control, direct path measurement

Since the NLX series has always stood for the highest precision, DMG MORI has further optimized in this area as well. The stability of the cast bed and the rigidity of the moving components have been increased, and double-supported ball screw drives have been implemented. The intelligent temperature management considers all heat sources and reliably counteracts them, ensuring high long-term accuracy even in automated manufacturing. Furthermore, direct measuring systems in all axes ensure high positioning accuracy, which is enhanced by a factor of 5 with the MAP correction from Magnescale. Thus, the NLX 2500|1250 2nd generation is also capable of precision machining, allowing for even more room for process integration.

The app-based manufacturing platform CELOS X on MAPPS with FANUC or on a SINUMERIK ONE from Siemens supports users with intuitive operation and paves the way for digital manufacturing. In the case of demanding applications, exclusive DMG MORI technology cycles facilitate programming, such as gearSKIVING for gear cutting.

Equipped for automated and sustainable manufacturing

Thanks to a plug & play interface, the NLX 2500|1250 2nd generation can be easily automated. The possibilities range from bar loaders to robot-based solutions such as Robo2Go, MATRIS light, and the MATRIS system. An optimized chip fall, thoughtful management of coolant and chips using zero-sludgeCOOLANT, and a self-cleaning chip conveyor support a process-safe, autonomous manufacturing. Both zero-sludgeCOOLANT and the emulsion mist separator zeroFOG also contribute to a more environmentally friendly production. With such and other measures – for example, through 400-V operation – the GREENMODE significantly reduces energy and resource consumption.
