A milestone that not only shapes the history of a company but also that of an extraordinary leader: Gerhard Rall celebrated his 50th anniversary as managing director of Hainbuch at the end of last year. Half a century in the service of the company and the region – an unparalleled career marked by visions, commitment, and innovation.
Gerhard Rall began his professional career in 1957, at the age of 15, with an apprenticeship as a mechanic at Wilhelm Hainbuch Precision Clamping Tool Factory, a small contract manufacturer in Marbach with 23 employees. After his training, he gained valuable experience in other companies, completed his mechanical engineering technician qualification, before returning to the company as operations manager in 1964. At the same time, he studied business administration at the Administrative and Business Academy in Heilbronn.
In 1966, Gerhard Rall married Hildegard Hainbuch, the daughter of the company founder. “I married two people that year,” Gerhard Rall likes to say with a smile. “On one hand, my beautiful Hildegard and on the other hand, the legal entity, the company Hainbuch.” This personal and professional interplay significantly contributed to advancing the shared vision and success of the company.
At the end of 1974, Gerhard Rall joined the management of the company, which had been renamed to “Hainbuch GmbH Spannende Technik.” At that time, the company had 55 employees. Transitioning from a contract manufacturer to having its own product portfolio was Gerhard Rall's greatest drive at that time. The major turning point came in 1977 with his invention, the SPANNTOP principle, which he patented in Europe and the USA in 1980. This innovation was set to revolutionize clamping technology, became the global standard over the years, and made Hainbuch a leading provider in the industry. Further patents and groundbreaking ideas followed, continuously advancing the company.
“We want to make our customers successful and strive for top performance and clever solutions that make a decisive difference for our customers. Particularly tricky clamping situations are a constant source of inspiration and motivation for us to find new and better solutions. We would rather fail with an innovation than succeed by copying,” is his credo.
In addition to his entrepreneurial vision, Gerhard Rall has always seen a social responsibility for the company. As a founding member and long-time chairman of a support association, he has been committed for many years to the daycare center “Stückchen Himmel e.V.” in a slum in northern Brazil. In 2012, he received the Economic Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg, in 2010 he was appointed honorary senator, and in 2019 he was named World Ethics Ambassador. “No successful entrepreneur can claim that he has not had some luck along the way. Gratitude and humility are, for me, part of it,” says Rall.
“I am very pleased with what we have achieved together in the last 50 years,” explains Gerhard Rall. “The success of Hainbuch is the result of our creative team and a clear vision that we have always pursued.”
Today, Hainbuch has 850 employees in 11 subsidiaries and is a global leader in clamping technology and automation.
