Sandvik Coromant presents its comprehensive product range of the new generation of Silent Tools turning adapters. The offering has been expanded to include additional sizes and configurations, including adapters with Coromant Capto and HSK-T couplings. For quick and easy adaptation, the innovative vibration damping technology is now also available as a Tailor Made solution.
The improved Silent Tools adapters have been developed to make internal turning with long overhangs safer, faster, and more productive. By expanding our range of Tailor Made solutions, we can better meet customer wishes and specific tool requirements, thus enabling further optimized machining processes,” explains Åke Axner, Global Product Manager at Sandvik Coromant.
Five decades of experience in vibration damping
The optimized Silent Tools turning adapters, which are now also available as a Tailor Made solution, represent the pinnacle of this development and offer customized, customer-specific tools with superior vibration damping. The existing range is now being expanded to include 75 Coromant Capto adapters (in diameters from 32 to 100 mm) and six HSK-T adapters (in diameters from 32 to 60 mm).
The intelligent damping mechanism effectively counteracts the vibration forces, ensuring safer machining with long overhangs and reducing the risk of interruptions and disturbances. “Previously, the damper had to be manually adjusted to the desired frequency range. With the introduction of the second generation of Silent Tools, this process has been automated by precisely mounting the damper body mechanically and calibrating it to the optimal frequency range,” explains Axner.
The damping mechanism ensures significantly more uniform performance at different length/diameter ratios and leads to higher repeatability and reliability in machining.
The new generation of Silent Tools turning adapters is the answer to the central challenges of the industry: increasing the material removal rate, improving surface quality, enhancing process reliability, and reducing manufacturing costs. By minimizing interruptions in internal turning operations, the use of Silent Tools lowers the cost per component and makes companies more profitable and competitive.
The updated range of Silent Tools turning adapters now includes a total of 187 tools, including cylindrical adapters, Coromant Capto, and HSK-T adapters. These tools are suitable for general internal turning, parting, grooving, and threading operations in various industry segments such as aerospace, power generation, oil and gas industry, general mechanical engineering, and machine tool construction.
