With the combination of innovative insert design, high-performance cutting material grades, and advanced coolant technology, Tungaloy-NTK Germany offers the key to more efficient and profitable machining processes.
Insert design with chip breaker geometry
The specially developed insert design with TFX chip breaker geometry puts an end to tangled chips. This ensures constant chip control, high edge stability, and stable processes. Even under demanding machining conditions, consistently good machining results and excellent surface qualities are achieved. Additionally, the FrontMax significantly reduces cycle times with cutting depths of up to 5 mm in a single pass.
Tool holders with internal cooling ensure that a cool head is maintained even under challenging machining conditions. The result: extended tool life. The direct coolant jet also optimizes chip removal, thereby ensuring efficient machining. Thanks to the integrated coolant supply, stability and efficiency remain consistently high.
High-performance cutting material grades
Two cutting material grades are offered for the FrontMax: The ST4 grade for stainless steels like 1.4301 and general steels. Its PVD-coated carbide composition combines hardness and oxidation resistance – a shield against feared built-up edges. The result: extended tool life, improved surface qualities, and a smooth machining process.
The DM4 grade for heat-resistant alloys or titanium alloys. The TiAlN coating withstands high temperatures and ensures wear resistance. Even under high-temperature conditions, performance remains stable.
Convincing application examples
In practice, the NTK FrontMax has already proven itself multiple times: For example, the FrontMax achieved a tool life of 180 pieces per cutting edge during the wet machining of a shaft made of stainless steel (1.4301) with a cutting speed of 80 m/min, a feed rate of 0.03 mm/rev, and a cutting depth of 5.0 mm. Meanwhile, the competitive tool could only process 50 pieces per cutting edge.
Another example is the wet machining of a component from the electronics industry made of stainless steel (1.4125) with a cutting speed of 100 m/min, a feed rate of 0.15 mm/rev, and a cutting depth of 4.0 mm. The FrontMax achieved a tool life of 160 pieces per cutting edge, while the comparison tool (PVD-coated carbide) only managed 80 pieces. Additionally, material removal with the FrontMax could be accomplished in a single pass – compared to four passes with the competitive tool. This significantly reduced cycle time.
