Absolent has specialized in the filtration of oil mist and oil smoke for over 30 years and has additionally been providing solutions for dry dust and smoke gases since 2012. With the new AD series, the company now consolidates this know-how into six models, ranging from compact single-station solutions to central systems for air volume flows of up to 13,500 cubic meters per hour. Three of the six models are also available in ATEX-certified versions for areas with explosive dust. 'Manufacturing processes that generate dry dust and smoke gases pose risks to employees, equipment, and compliance with legal requirements,' explains René Rüping, Managing Director at Absolent Germany. 'Strict workplace limit values and ATEX regulations require certified extraction solutions with verifiable filter performance. That's exactly what we developed the AD series for.'

Three sizes, two versions

The AD series includes the models AD051, AD101, and AD151 as well as the identical ATEX variants AD051 EX, AD101 EX, and AD151 EX. The performance range of the series covers air volumes from 900 to 14,000 m³/h.

All models can be equipped with an integrated, frequency-controlled fan or for connection to an external fan. The housings are made of Galfan steel and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The material is characterized by high corrosion resistance and a long service life.

Depending on the application, the collected dust is either gathered in a collection drawer or in a dust bin. According to the company, the AD series requires significantly less floor space than comparable competitive devices. 'The modular design gives operators a real choice,' says René Rüping. 'Those with limited floor space can choose a more compact design. Those who want to maximize uptime to reduce operating costs over the service life can opt for a larger filter design.'

Absolent Vertical Airflow Technology

The core of the AD series is the vertical airflow technology. The contaminated air enters through the device inlet and is directed downwards past vertically mounted filter elements. Larger particles are already separated before reaching the actual filter medium, extending its service life. The dust released during pulse jet cleaning falls directly into the collection drawer or container instead of settling on the underlying filters. An integrated differential pressure sensor triggers the cleaning as needed, keeping compressed air consumption low. The filters are certified to dust class M and achieve a separation efficiency of over 99.9 percent. An optional post-filter module with HEPA-H13 filters is available.

Tool-free filter change

For maintenance, Absolent relies on the patented CleanChange system. The interconnected filter elements can be completely removed from the clean air side. The operating personnel do not need to enter the contaminated area at any time, and no special tools are required. 'For the filter change, the employee does not have to intervene in the filter housing. The clamping device is located exclusively in the clean air area and is separated from the contaminated airflow,' explains René Rüping. 'This reduces the burden on personnel from particles and smoke gases while simultaneously shortening service time in production.'

ATEX-certified for explosive dust

For applications with combustible or explosive dust, Absolent offers an ATEX-certified version with the EX variants according to the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU. This is suitable for conductive and metallic dusts as well as for conductive dusts. The filter medium used is also designed to be antistatic. Depending on the site-specific risk assessment and available floor space, three explosion protection concepts are available: an explosion relief valve, a valve with redirection, or a flameless pressure relief. 'We can help determine the ATEX risk of the dust sample,' says René Rüping.

From welding to pharmaceutical production

The AD series is designed for a wide range of dry applications where particles, vapors, or explosive dust are generated. This includes MIG, TIG, manual, laser, and plasma welding, as well as thermal cutting, grinding and deburring of iron and non-ferrous metals, dry machining through milling, turning, and drilling without coolant, and surface treatments such as shot blasting. The series is also designed for organic dust in food and pharmaceutical production, for fine, sometimes reactive dust from chemical and plastic processing, and for fiber dust from textile processing and composite manufacturing.

From planning to maintenance

Absolent supports customers beyond just the delivery of equipment. Based on measurements and calculations, the company specifies the appropriate solution and guarantees the promised separation and filter performance, from individual systems to turnkey projects. The standardized, modular design allows for comparatively short delivery times from specification to installation. A global network of service partners and technicians accompanies the systems from commissioning to ongoing filter maintenance.

'When the air at the workplace is contaminated or an existing extraction system does not deliver the expected performance, a detailed analysis is worthwhile,' says René Rüping. 'We first check whether the emission source is reliably captured. Only then do we specify the required filter solution.'
