High-performance solid carbide tools and intelligent hybrid concepts are increasingly coming into focus for machinists – especially in machining.
demanding materials. There are reasons for this: In times of increasing competitive pressure
they deliver higher cutting values, longer tool life, and enable more efficient
Manufacturing. Gühring presents four tool innovations at AMB 2026 that are specifically designed to meet these requirements.
The four innovations address different challenges throughout the entire machining process. The focus is on solutions for greater process reliability in critical machining operations, reliable machining of difficult-to-manage materials, and the reduction of complexity in manufacturing. Innovative geometries ensure controlled chip removal and stable processes, while modern coating and substrate technologies support high loads and demanding materials, and multifunctional tool concepts combine multiple machining steps into a single tool.
Solid carbide thread taps for steel
The tapping of blind hole threads in steel is among the most demanding tasks.
Machining tasks, as a secure chip removal is crucial for process stability.
With the new solid carbide tap SteelPro, Gühring presents a solid carbide solution for the process-safe production of blind hole threads up to 2xD in steel for the first time. This is made possible by a newly developed and patented symmetrical flute geometry with reduced cutting edge back taper, which ensures reliable chip root shearing, secure chip removal, and clean, flawless thread bottoms.
Users benefit from significantly higher cutting speeds and a much
more productive machining than with conventional HSS thread drills. Especially in the
Series production allows for the use of solid carbide, providing significant economic advantages: tool life of up to 500 percent above the previous level significantly reduces tool changes, machine downtime, and tool costs.
Circular segment cutters for efficient 3D contouring
In practice, users often rely on inefficient ball end mills when finishing large, uniform surfaces and contours on 5-axis machines, thereby missing out on significant savings potential: Compared to ball end mills, circular segment cutters have a larger contact area with the workpiece. The significantly larger radius allows for a greater path distance during contouring, enabling line jumps that can be up to 10 times larger.
This allows users to process up to 80% faster and achieve 10 times better surfaces, depending on the requirements. The new four-edged solid carbide circular segment cutter G-Mold 55 CS was specifically developed for these demands. The tool is particularly used for applications in hard and tough materials up to 55 HRC.
Precision reaming in every diameter range
One tool instead of several specialized solutions: Gühring expands its high-performance reamer program with a true all-rounder for users with changing requirements: The HR 500 short S/D enables the machining of blind and through holes with just one tool. The universal tool concept allows for a wide variety of reaming operations and components – thanks to its short design, it is also suitable for limited installation spaces.
The HR 500 short S/D ensures optimal supply to the cutting edge and secure chip removal even under demanding operating conditions through axial and radial cooling channels. With a large standard range in 1/10 dimensions, the HR 500 short S/D is not only more cost-effective than special tools but also available more quickly. Additionally, the hybrid concept helps reduce inventory costs and tool turnover.
Maximum performance when drilling in cast iron

With the new solid carbide drill CastPro, Gühring presents a high-performance drill specifically designed for machining cast iron. As the first cast iron specialist on the market, the CastPro combines three cutting edges with corner radii, achieving an exceptional combination of productivity, wear protection, and process reliability. The third cutting edge allows for particularly high feed rates and significantly reduces machining time, while the optimized corner radius minimizes wear and increases tool life.
Users benefit from up to 150 percent higher machining speeds and tool lives that can be extended by up to 280 percent. At the same time, three guiding phases ensure high hole quality, precise positioning, and high stability even in cross drilling.
Thanks to the combination of a 140° point angle and corner protection radius, the tools have excellent centering properties, allowing for the omission of a pilot hole even at drilling depths of up to 8xD. The highly hard Signum coating additionally protects against abrasive wear, making the CastPro a powerful solution for demanding cast iron applications.
