Sandvik Coromant presents the CoroMill MR20, an innovative indexable insert concept. It has been developed for unmatched stability, predictable performance, and exceptional cutting rates in demanding materials and applications. CoroMill MR20 is designed for manufacturing companies that require absolute process safety and sets new standards in reliability and productivity for profile and face milling.
The concept with single-sided round inserts has been optimized for material groups ISO M, ISO S, and ISO P. Due to its combination of safety and versatility, it is ideally suited for pocket milling and complex profile milling of titanium and other HRSA materials used in aerospace as well as oil and gas components. In the area of tool and mold making with ISO P materials, the tool delivers reliable performance in roughing and finishing. For ISO M materials, it handles the heavy machining of pump and valve components with the high predictability and productivity demanded in these industries. For these applications, CoroMill MR20 is the first choice of Sandvik Coromant.
"In developing the CoroMill MR20, our goal was to create a versatile cutter that offers the highest level of process safety," says Álvaro Ruiz, Global Product Application Specialist at Sandvik Coromant. "Customers machining high-quality components need predictable and repeatable performance – and that is exactly what the CoroMill MR20 provides."
With the CoroMill MR20, higher performance capability and more sustainable machining are achieved. This is ensured by the possibility of a higher feed per tooth, which reduces energy consumption during machining. Due to its long tool life, fewer indexable inserts are consumed, which overall reduces the CO2 footprint of manufacturing.
"A higher feed rate with longer tool life means lower resource consumption and less waste," confirms Álvaro Ruiz. "This is a win for productivity and sustainability."
The advanced tool design ensures superior fatigue and deformation resistance, guarantees repeatability, and extends the life of the milling body. The new integrated coolant supply from below ensures high performance, especially with long chips and hard-to-machine materials. One of the key innovations is the optimized design of the insert seat: the large contact area between the insert and milling body reduces micro-movements and thus ensures maximum stability.
The hexagonal indexable insert features a thick, robust body that provides exceptional fracture toughness and superior edge security. Thanks to tight manufacturing tolerances, uniform and predictable wear is ensured. This enables efficient, unmanned manufacturing, reduces scrap, and maximizes uptime.
By combining stability, versatility, and cutting performance, manufacturing companies can push performance limits with the CoroMill MR20 while maintaining full control over the process.
