
ISCAR expands its cutting tool program with the new grade IC1017. It is designed for the machining of nickel-based superalloys. IC1017 features a highly hard fine-grain substrate and a PVD coating for high speeds when turning high-temperature resistant materials.
High-temperature resistant alloys are often used in components of gas turbine engines in aerospace. The components must be very hard, phase-stable, resistant to oxidation, material fatigue, and corrosion. However, this results in special requirements for machining: During the machining of superalloys, high temperatures arise that stress the tool and process.
Specifically for turning high-temperature resistant alloys, ISCAR has now developed the new cutting tool grade IC1017. It consists of a very hard fine-grain substrate with an aluminum-titanium-nitride PVD coating (AlTiN). The cutting tool supports use in the ISO range S10 to S25 and machines high-temperature resistant alloys at high cutting speeds.
The new grade complements IC806 and IC804. ISCAR thus expands the existing machining possibilities for industries that machine high-temperature resistant alloys. The product innovation is available as a double-sided indexable insert, among others, in designs of types CCMT, CNMG, DNMG, DNMX, RCMT, SNMG, VCMT, and WNMG.
