Drilling and Tapping Milling Program by HB microtec

Specifically designed for manufacturing holes and threads in medical technology, aerospace technology, and precision engineering, HB microtec GmbH & Co. KG presents a comprehensive program of micro and miniature tools made of solid carbide at the AMB.

The drilling and thread milling tools ACTIONDRILL and TARGETDRILL are particularly suitable for titanium alloys, stainless steel alloys, and highly abrasive as well as tough, long-chipping materials and non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum alloys and brass alloys. Their cutting edges are specially rounded for this purpose. Depending on the application, they are coated and designed with special cutting geometries. This achieves a previously hardly attainable productivity and particularly long tool life.

Centering and pilot drilling

Universally applicable in medical technology and precision engineering, as well as in the watch industry: Coated, single-flute solid carbide thread whirling tools with a 60° flank angle produce a variety of different threads in heat-resistant and tough materials such as stainless steel alloys, titanium alloys, or aluminum alloys. ©HB microtec

For pilot drilling for deep hole drilling with diameters from 0.3 to 3 mm and for pre-drilling for metric and inch threads with inner diameters from 0.3 to about 7.2 mm, solid carbide drills ACTIONDRILL are now available. A particular advantage is that the drill tools center precisely with their drill tips and finish the countersinks at the drill entrances with their step flanks in one operation. Drills for 2xD and 3xD drilling depths feature coolant supply through the shank with up to eight outlet nozzles to immediately flush the chips generated directly from the chip chambers and simultaneously lubricate and cool the drill.

Specifically designed for drilling on uneven and curved surfaces are the pilot drills ACTIONDRILL Inox-170. They have a 170° tip angle. This allows them to center accurately even on sloped and curved surfaces.

Pre-drilling for metric and inch threads

Core drills from the TARGETDRILL series are available for metric threads from M1 to M8 as well as for inch threads according to UNC, UNF, and UNEF from UNF No. 0 to UNF No. 12 or UNEF 5/16”. They are also suitable for pre-drilling for subsequent deep hole drilling. Particularly when pre-drilling up to 6xD drilling depth, the solid carbide drills TARGETDRILL INOX 6xD cooled work precisely aligned. Their spiral flanks are designed with four facets for this purpose. For blind holes and through holes up to 3.5xD drilling depth, as well as for drilling on uneven surfaces, the pilot drills TARGETDRILL Inox-Flatdrill 180, which are designed with a 180° tip angle and generate a flat surface in the hole, are advantageous.

Reliable deep micro drilling

Drilling from 0.1 mm diameter up to 3xD and 5xD drilling depth is reliably and accurately handled by the solid carbide drills TARGETDRILL micro-INOX. As standard, the two-flute drill tools are available in increments of 0.01 mm up to 3 mm diameter. As an option, the Tuttlingen tool specialist manufactures such micro drills with individually specified diameters. This usually concerns production in precision engineering.

Productively manufacturing small threads

Three manufacturing steps - pre-drilling, threading, and chamfering - are combined in the thread drilling mills TARGETDRILL thread-drill-mill from HB microtec. In one operation without tool change, they drill core holes with their drill tip, mill helical threads, and chamfer the threads with their step shoulder. As an additional advantage, the drill tip also creates extended thread reliefs at the bottom of the hole. Highly process-safe and productive, the threading tools process thanks to internal coolant supply through the tool shank. High-quality coatings contribute to their universal and reliable threading in non-ferrous materials and titanium.

A wide variety of variants with dimensions for metric threads from M2 to M8, including odd intermediate diameters, are available. With these threading tools, manufacturing companies work significantly more productively and economically compared to the previously common tools that require multiple tool changes.

Milling threads from M1

To manufacture highly productive and flexible small threads from M1 to M3, manufacturing companies advantageously use thread whirling tools from the ACTIONMILL micro whirl-thread micro series. These single-flute tools have five cutting edges with a 60° flank angle. They are coated to withstand high temperatures and abrasive wear and feature internal coolant supply through the shank with four to eight outlet nozzles. This allows them to operate particularly productively with long tool life.

Proven thread mills from Sweden

In addition, HB microtec GmbH & Co. KG now cooperates with the Swedish tool manufacturer WhizCut AB, Helsingborg. From this, HB microtec specifically offers single and multi-flute micro thread milling tools in its product portfolio for users in Germany. The comprehensive product program includes single-flute thread mills M0.5 to M2, two-flute thread mills M1 to M8, and multi-flute thread mills M2 to M8. For comparable diameters, tools for inch threads UNC and UNF as well as for cylindrical and conical pipe threads - among others according to the standard BSPT, NPT, and NPTF - are also available in the respective product lines.
