Two innovations particularly represent the excellence of CemeCon. With the development of HiPIMS coating materials to industrial market maturity, CemeCon set unprecedented benchmarks in 2010. HiPIMS stands for maximum hardness, homogeneity, and adhesion strength like no other coating process, making it the benchmark for demanding machining tasks.
Since 1993, CemeCon has been producing carbon-based diamond coatings that are indispensable in the machining of highly abrasive materials, and with this patented multilayer technology, it is now the market leader.
The course for a successful future has been set
Not only technologically but also entrepreneurially, CemeCon has recently created the best conditions for success with a future-oriented generational change in the board of the AG. Bernd Hermeler took over the chairmanship from Dr.-Ing. Oliver Lemmer in May 2026, after having worked in all areas of the company for 35 years and always distinguished himself as a shaping force. He is convinced: 'Our customers can always rely on receiving outstanding coating quality from CemeCon. And that at the same high level in all parts of the world.'
In addition to its headquarters in Würselen, North Rhine-Westphalia, CemeCon has subsidiaries in the USA, China, Japan, and India. There is also an international network with partners in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Thailand, and Taiwan. This ensures that customers in all important markets are reliably served with the same quality and responsiveness.
CemeCon remains a family business, now managed in the second generation. Many employees have been with CemeCon for decades and contribute significantly to the product and service quality that customers need in precision manufacturing with their profound process and equipment knowledge. 'In addition to four decades of consistent technology development, our 'asset' is a team that embodies our high standards every day,' emphasizes Hermeler.
From Vision to Global Company
Dr.-Ing. Toni Leyendecker founded CemeCon on July 15, 1986, with the conviction that coatings could elevate the performance of cutting tools to a fundamentally new level. Oliver Lemmer was responsible from the beginning for building the organizational and technological capabilities as a close companion of Toni Leyendecker. The first market-ready systems brought the ceramic coating material TiAlN to the sputtering process, which was then still considered an absolute niche technology but soon found great acceptance among tool manufacturers.
Four decades later, an innovative guiding idea has become a company with around 350 employees worldwide. Its name has become synonymous with premium coatings for cutting tools and offers the currently most powerful coating technology with HiPIMS.
For the upcoming challenges in a market environment characterized by high volatility and dynamic changes, the new CEO Bernd Hermeler sees CemeCon well positioned: 'With the newly organized board, which includes Christoph Feig as the new COO and Dr.-Ing. Beate Hüttermann as CMO, two other long-standing CemeCon employees, we sustainably emphasize what CemeCon has always stood for: a strong connection of stability and consistent development. For 40 years, we have been continuously improving our core competence in the coating of cutting tools while also recognizing and implementing new market requirements early on.
