CAD/CAM solution for aerospace

At ILA in Berlin, OPEN MIND demonstrates how modern CAD/CAM technology supports the efficient, precise manufacturing of complex aerospace components and integrates into secure processes.

The aerospace industry demands the highest standards in machining. Complex geometries and strict quality requirements must be achieved flawlessly. Whether engine and landing gear components, structural parts, eVTOL components, or components for rocket construction, such as thrust frames, connecting elements, tank and structural parts – the tasks are diverse. OPEN MIND demonstrates at ILA how hyperMILL users are supported with unique 5-axis strategies, powerful turning and milling strategies, as well as special solution packages for blisks and impellers to reliably program and manufacture even the most demanding components. Challenges from additive and hybrid manufacturing can also be managed with hyperMILL.

Efficiency and control

For industry-specific, difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium, Inconel, superalloys, and composite materials, tool wear can be reduced in hyperMILL through optimized high-performance cutting (HPC) strategies. 'With hyperMILL, we address many typical technical challenges of the industry, but companies that are new to the field also face the extremely high safety and documentation standards of aerospace.',

Here too, hyperMILL is perfectly suited, as it can be seamlessly integrated into AS9100/EN9100 compliant processes,' explains Dirk Lehmann, Sales Team Leader North at OPEN MIND Technologies AG. An important aspect of quality management is, for example, the NC code-based prior simulation of machining processes with hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining.

Well connected and established

OPEN MIND is making its debut at ILA, but is by no means a newcomer to the industry. The company is closely connected with international aerospace research and collaborates worldwide with renowned research institutes. These collaborations ensure access to the latest manufacturing methods. Additionally, OPEN MIND maintains close partnerships with leading machine and tool manufacturers to optimally align machining strategies with material, tool, and machine. This results in consistently validated processes for the highest precision, maximum efficiency, and reliable process safety.

Already on a mission

Many renowned aerospace companies already trust hyperMILL and successfully use the software in safety-critical manufacturing environments. In the space sector, hyperMILL is also part of real missions: components manufactured with hyperMILL are successfully in use in space, including in communication satellites.
