The student race car builders from the University of Erlangen and WEILER Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH from Emskirchen have shared a successful partnership for over ten years. Now, Krista Dewes, head of the mechanics team at High-Voltage Motorsports, and her fellow student Stefan Kraus personally thanked the manufacturer of precision lathes for their support in the past racing season.

Personal thanks and factory visit in Emskirchen

Michael Eisler, managing partner of WEILER, and Stefan Sommerfeld, head of technology, welcomed the students from Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg in Emskirchen. During the visit, the students also received a tour of the company's production halls.

Fifth electric vehicle – first autonomous drive in competition

In the past season, the 101-member strong team built its fifth electric vehicle, the FAUmax Sigma. The vehicle was the third lightest at the Formula Student Germany competition at Hockenheimring – and enabled the first successful driverless drive at an official event. WEILER manufactured precision components for the project on its lathes, which were used in the chassis of the vehicle.
"The car was the most reliable in our club's history. Without the support of WEILER, such a project would not have been possible," said Krista Dewes.

New season, new ambitions: All-wheel drive and monocoque

For the current season, High-Voltage Motorsports has set ambitious goals: The sixth electric vehicle of the club is switching from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive with wheel hub motors and will receive a new monocoque – a new self-supporting body – improved aerodynamics, and a new battery. With this, the team aims to participate in the competitive races of Formula Student Czech in the Czech Republic, Formula Student Germany, and Formula Student East in Hungary.
Michael Eisler expressed his admiration:

"For over ten years, we have been happy to support the commitment and are pleased with the regular student successes. High-Voltage Motorsports combines technical excellence with real team spirit – exactly what drives us at WEILER."
