With the use of solid-state battery technology in market-ready motorcycles, Verge enables a charging time of just ten minutes and a range of up to 595 km. This breakthrough represents an extraordinary innovation in battery technology, driven by Verge, which is now making its way onto public roads.

Known for its groundbreaking hubless rim motor, the technology and electric motorcycle company Verge Motorcycles is once again pushing the boundaries of what motorcycling can be. The company is the first in the world to introduce solid-state battery technology into the series production of motorcycles - marking a significant milestone not only for two-wheelers but for electric vehicles in general. The innovative battery technology developed and tested in collaboration with the technology company Donut Lab enables significantly faster charging times and nearly doubles the range with a single charge.

In recent years, solid-state batteries have been a major topic in discussions related to the automotive industry. These batteries consist of a solid electrolyte, making them significantly safer and more efficient than lithium-ion batteries made with liquid or gel electrolytes. Numerous large vehicle manufacturers have tested solid-state technology in their own vehicles, and it is expected to be used more widely in production vehicles over the next decade. Verge is one step ahead. The company will deliver the first motorcycles with solid-state batteries to its customers in the coming months.

"The use of solid-state battery technology in series motorcycles represents a historic breakthrough that will revolutionize the entire automotive industry. Through the close collaboration of Verge with Donut Lab, as well as testing and validation of the battery packs, we were able to integrate the technology into the new generation of the Verge TS Pro model, which is already in production and available on Verge's website and in our showroom stores," says Tuomo Lehtimäki, CEO of Verge Motorcycles.

The company presented the next evolutionary stage of the Verge TS Pro at the EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan in early November.

Groundbreaking features revolutionize the riding experience

The solid-state battery technology and other outstanding features make the Verge TS Pro a dream for every motorcyclist. Its next-generation Donut 2.0 motor weighs 50% less than its predecessor but offers the same power and torque (1,000 Nm), significantly improving efficiency, stability, and handling. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

The new battery pack revolutionizes the riding experience through extremely fast charging: in just ten minutes, the range can be increased by an additional 300 kilometers. Current battery technologies typically allow only a few thousand charge cycles, whereas Verge's solid-state battery can be used throughout the entire lifespan of the motorcycle. The improved battery has no impact on the price of the motorcycle, making it an extremely cost-effective option for customers.

Additionally, Verge customers can choose a battery pack with extended range when purchasing, increasing the range from 350 kilometers to up to 600 kilometers with a single charge, which is almost a doubling of the additional range.

“The next-generation solid-state battery technology from Donut Lab is the result of years of development work. Now we are ready to present the market for electric mobility with a truly extraordinary technology, with the motorcycle from Verge being an excellent first example of this. And this is just the beginning - our battery technology can be used in all types of vehicles, from motorcycles and cars to trucks, robots, and stationary energy storage,” explains Donut Lab's CTO, Ville Piippo.

Improved safety and sustainability

A key advantage of solid-state batteries is their safety. Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, they do not ignite, making them significantly safer for users and charging stations. The innovative battery packs also provide stable operation across all operating temperatures.
Verge's solid-state batteries are also responsibly sourced. They are made from materials that are commonly available worldwide, ensuring that material availability does not cause production issues.
