The modular HydroPur filter system, which KNOLL Maschinenbau first presented four years ago, impresses with outstanding filter performance and filter fineness, as well as an attractive price-performance ratio. To expand the application area of the hydrostatic filter, KNOLL developed the previous HydroPur 400 model into a whole family, which now includes four filter sizes and offers additional options. The expanded range also includes special systems based on the four HydroPur filter tops.

The KNOLL HydroPur is a hydrostatic filter that, integrated into a system with tank, pumps, etc., supplies chip-removing machine tools with cleaned cooling lubricant (KSS). The filter has a fleece or endless belt that, in combination with hydrostatic pressure, effectively separates liquid and chips - with many advantages over simple filters. Due to the high filter fineness, hydrostatic filters are particularly suitable for use in grinding processes. They also enable the problem-free discharge of chips of other types, even from lightweight metals.
In contrast to the hydrostatic filter HL, which has been part of the KNOLL program for some time, all HydroPur filter systems are modular in design. This allows customers to configure a product according to their needs from various standardized functional modules - without unnecessary functions and costs.

Additional variants increase application flexibility

KNOLL offers the new HydroPur variants 250 / 400 / 700 / 1000 with different maximum filter performance. In addition, the respective HydroPur filter modules are now 'decoupled' from the tank system, allowing them to be used with containers in special sizes - locally for a single machine tool as well as in central KSS systems.

With the various filter sizes, there are now also options regarding tank size and the employed electrical and control technology. KNOLL firmly adheres to the modular design of the HydroPur units for good reasons. Jannik Nörz, product manager for HydroPur, explains: 'The modular principle with standard components benefits all customers who do not require a special custom design. They benefit from standardization and high availability. By configuring instead of constructing, we can deliver quickly and also offer a very attractive price-performance ratio.'

From the basic model to the high-end system

The basic equipment of every HydroPur system includes a Hydrostat filter HydroPur and a clean tank, the filter fleece or endless belt, various supply pumps, sensors, and the control system. The new HydroPur can also be equipped with vacuum support. Additionally, KNOLL integrates a winding unit into the system upon request, which separates the dirty discharge from the used filter fleece, thus contributing to more cost-effective disposal. Other optional equipment additions include a magnetic roller for pre-separation, as well as a casing with LED status light, a plate heat exchanger, double switch filter, belt skimmer, immersion cooler, control cabinet, and a safety catch basin. Most standardized functional modules can also be retrofitted.

Vacuum option increases performance level

Particularly noteworthy is the vacuum support provided by side channel blowers, which KNOLL previously only offered with the HL filter. The vacuum increases the KSS throughput, and a homogeneous filter cake is formed more quickly, which carries away the finest particles. The user benefits from purer cooling lubricant, which positively affects workpiece quality and tool life. A drying section ensures that the sludge is discharged drier than, for example, with flatbed filters. This reduces disposal costs and KSS loss.

In addition, the vacuum support reduces the consumption of filter fleece. This drops to zero when the optionally available endless belt with fabric cleaning is chosen. This leads to further reduced operating and disposal costs.
'In full equipment, the new HydroPur achieves a performance level that meets even the highest demands of machining,' mentions Jannik Nörz. 'However, for those for whom a HydroPur modular system does not meet all wishes, we also offer special systems that can be designed completely individually for the customer.'
