Sandvik Coromant has expanded its CoroMill MS20 corner milling concept with the grade GC1230. It has been specifically developed for ISO-P materials. The 90-degree corner milling solution now also offers exceptional performance in steel machining – from roughing to finishing – and impresses with uncompromising safety, versatility, and productivity.
The CoroMill MS20 combines a high-quality milling body with precision indexable inserts, enabling excellent surface finishes and optimal wall qualities during repeated corner milling. The robust milling body ensures tight tolerances in both axial and radial runout. This improves component quality while reducing scrap rates. The indexable inserts, produced using advanced pressing technology, provide high dimensional accuracy and further enhance tool life and component quality.
"CoroMill MS20 has already proven itself with ISO-M and ISO-S materials. With the addition of the grade GC1230, it becomes the first choice for ISO-P applications, particularly in general mechanical engineering and the automotive industry," explains Sangram Dash, Global Product Manager for indexable insert milling tools at Sandvik Coromant. "Thanks to its versatility, the grade is ideal for repeated corner milling, face milling, linear and spiral ramping, full slot milling, and plunge drilling."
The steel milling grade GC1230 features modern coating and substrate technologies. These provide excellent wear resistance and edge stability. Users benefit from predictable tool life and consistent performance, even under demanding conditions. "The wear pattern is uniform and reliable, leading to fewer unexpected tool changes and higher productivity," emphasizes Dash.
Dash summarizes: "When it comes to corner milling, you shouldn't have to compromise. The corner milling concept CoroMill MS20 offers the right solution in every case, whether safety and problem-free machining, high productivity, or cost efficiency are the priority."
The CoroMill MS20 range includes milling bodies from 15.8 to 84 mm, as well as a new version with a cylindrical shank and integrated Silent Tools™ damper. This improves stability and performance in demanding applications. The range of indexable inserts includes geometries optimized for steel, stainless steel, and heat-resistant superalloys.
