With the Drivox·tec VHM drill DD170 Supreme, Walter AG is introducing a new VHM drill to the market. Like its predecessor, the DC170 Supreme, the new DD170 Supreme is also designed as a premium problem solver for steel and cast iron – but with some technical improvements that are currently unique: foremost among them is the innovative Krato·tec multilayer coating. Walter has already successfully introduced this in other drill families. Thus, the service life increases claimed by Walter of over 50% are indeed credible. Similarly, the revised tip geometry of the VHM drill has a positive effect: a larger internal clearance angle than external and the raised drill tip improve positioning accuracy, reduce axial forces that occur, and thereby increase hole quality.
The patented flute design has also been optimized: a flatter entry towards the drill tip improves process stability, especially with soft materials such as construction steel, as it minimizes material adhesion. In addition to optimizing the cutting profile, Walter increased the number of flutes. With now twelve instead of eight flutes, the DD170 Supreme can be re-sharpened more frequently, which significantly increases both the service life and sustainability of the VHM drill. Its high process reliability in challenging applications such as cross drilling or angled exits, the high wear protection of the Krato·tec coating, and the very good result quality make the DD170 Supreme, according to Walter, the new benchmark in solid carbide drilling. The Tübingen company offers the premium drill for the highest piece counts or drilling volumes (without piloting up to 12 × Dc) with diameters of 3–20 mm, as well as a special tool with shortened delivery times via Walter Xpress.
