Innovations in the field of carbide, coating, and chip flow have enabled the development of a completely new generation of grades for the steel turning process. The perfect coordination of these parameters leads to the new, economical steel turning grades BCP05T, BCP15T, BCP25T, BCP35T, and BCP40T.

The new Boehlerit steel turning grades offer excellent performance and machining reliability throughout the entire turning process. The newly developed combination of substrate and coating ensures an improvement in tool life. While the new BCP05T, BCP15T, and BCP25T steel turning grades are particularly well-suited for smooth cutting on steel as well as on cast and stainless materials, the tougher grades BCP35T and BCP40T are especially suitable for turning applications with interrupted cuts. The new grades BCP15T, BCP25T, and BCP35T have been developed with a new two-color CVD coating concept in mind, are capable of withstanding high temperature and thermal cycling demands, and ensure ideal wear detection.

The coating is based on the established MT-TiCN coating system for wear on free surfaces as well as on an α-Al.2O3-Layer to protect the cutting insert from excessive temperatures and to reduce crater wear. Here, too, simple wear detection is achieved through a yellow TiN coating on the clearance surfaces. The new grades BCP05T, BCP15T, and BCP25T are recommended for the medium application range at high cutting speeds, long engagement times, and stable roughing applications, while the grades BCP35T and BCP40T achieve excellent results at medium cutting speeds.
