In times of scarce resources and rising cost pressures, efficiency, sustainability, and flexibility in cutting technology are more in focus than ever. Those who want to remain competitive today must maximize machine run times, minimize setup times, and efficiently use valuable raw materials like carbide. This is where the TungMeister from Tungaloy comes into play: a well-thought-out exchange head system for milling that scores with rapid change speed, impressive variety, and high repeat accuracy – for more productivity, lower costs, and a gentle approach to resources.

In modern machining, flexibility, precision, and cost-effectiveness are among the most important success factors. 'This is exactly where the TungMeister from Tungaloy comes in. Our modular exchange head system for milling allows for quick and precise changes directly in the machine thanks to an enormous variety of milling head variants and shanks – without complex reconfiguration,' says Maik Meyer, product manager for rotating tools at Tungaloy-NTK-Germany GmbH.

One system, thousands of possibilities

45 types – from 90° corner mills to copy, chamfer, and slot mills – provide room for highly flexible combinations and cover an enormous variety of milling applications. In total, up to 13,000 combinations are possible. The TungMeister milling heads, made from the latest carbide, have excellent wear resistance and toughness, allowing for high cutting speeds.
With the variety of shanks and interchangeable milling heads, numerous applications such as milling of freeforms, shoulders, grooves, and slots can be implemented precisely and economically. The shanks are offered in four different designs, various lengths, and in materials such as steel, solid carbide, and heavy metal.

Rapid changes with full reproducibility

The trick: The milling head system allows for a tool change in under a minute. While classic solid carbide mills, including measuring in and out, often take up to ten minutes, the TungMeister only requires the simple loosening and screwing of the milling head via a highly precise thread system – the shank remains in the machine. In total, this brings 90 percent more productivity – with a single change process.

The high change accuracy is no coincidence: The full-surface contact of the cone and flat surface in the connection system ensures that the milling head and shank are always precisely aligned. This guarantees high repeat accuracy and process reliability – even with the most demanding milling operations.

Stay calm: Vibrations eliminated

With variable pitch and spiral angles, the new VEH types from the TungMeister program counter a frustrating and quality-reducing circumstance: tool vibration. Because the clamping grooves are angled differently, each cutting edge engages the material to be processed at different times. Especially in applications with large cutting widths and depths, this ensures higher efficiency and longer tool life.

Another highlight is the grade AH715: The combination of multilayer PVD coating and optimized carbide substrate offers a balanced ratio of wear resistance and fracture toughness. This grade is particularly suitable for high-speed milling, where consistent performance and long tool life are required.

Master of many disciplines

Maik Meyer summarizes: 'TungMeister is a fully-fledged alternative to HSS and solid carbide mills: Resharpening becomes unnecessary, and production and logistics costs can be sustainably reduced. Furthermore, the modular system conserves carbide resources – and the wallets of our customers.'
