The development and production of precision tools for micro-machining is subject to special and complex parameters. The application of the delicate tools is no less demanding. With the new and well-equipped Innovation Center, ZECHA has created a forward-looking opportunity to optimize the machining process and the application of its delicate products.

The extensively modernized building opposite the headquarters consolidates key future areas such as research and development, application technology, product management, and a modern multimedia training room for knowledge transfer and exchange under one roof. This creates ideal conditions for ZECHA to develop holistic manufacturing solutions and simultaneously promotes close dialogue with customers, partners, and employees.

Over 60 years ago, Erwin Zecha laid the foundation for today's company in Königsbach-Stein. Evolving from the Pforzheim watch industry, ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH has developed into a partner and problem solver for precision tools in micro-machining around the globe. ZECHA stands for quality, high-end technology, and innovation.

With the new ZECHA Innovation Center at the company's headquarters in Königsbach-Stein, the precision tool manufacturer is opening another chapter in its corporate development.

Clear response to increasing demands

"Our customers today rarely seek just the perfect tool. They want application technology, process know-how, seminars, digital formats, ideally available worldwide. That’s exactly why we have opened the ZECHA Innovation Center," says Yannik Zecha, Managing Director of ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH. "It is a place where development, application, training, and live communication come together so that what we develop here in Stein reaches our partners around the world faster and better."

With the new Innovation Center, ZECHA expands its spatial capacities and sets a clear sign for the future of the company. The combination of development, testing environment, and knowledge transfer enables the efficient creation of tailored machining concepts. The focus is always on customer benefit.

The decisive factor for the investment was primarily the continuous growth of key company areas. In particular, research and development as well as application technology have been expanded in terms of personnel. "We simply hit our limits in the main building. The teams have grown, and the tasks have become more complex. It has been clear for some time that we need more space," explains Yannik Zecha. The opportunity to acquire the building on the opposite side of the street from the headquarters in close proximity proved to be a fortunate coincidence.

The spatial proximity plays a crucial role for ZECHA as it ensures that close exchange between all departments remains simple and quick.
At the same time, the investment also underscores the company's clear commitment to the location. Despite its international orientation, ZECHA consciously remains rooted in Königsbach-Stein. "For us, it has always been clear that we would stay here at this location. This is a conscious commitment to the region and at the same time the basis for continuing to accompany our customers closely and in partnership," says Yannik Zecha.

Close collaboration as the key to coordinated machining solutions

In the new Innovation Center, research and development, application technology, and product management are now combined. These areas traditionally work closely together at ZECHA. The spatial bundling will make this exchange even more intense and efficient.

Application technology is in direct contact with customers through the field service and brings their requirements, challenges, and issues into the company. In close coordination with development, new tool concepts, adapted geometries, or complete process solutions are created. Product management ensures that these solutions are systematically further developed and strategically positioned in the market. The spatial proximity allows for faster coordination processes. Ideas can be discussed, verified, and further developed directly. "In the end, it’s always about finding the best solution for the customer together. That’s why close collaboration is crucial," explains Yannik Zecha.

The centerpiece of the ZECHA Innovation Center is the integrated testing center. Here, new tools and machining strategies are tested and further developed under real conditions. Modern milling machines allow for the representation of various materials and applications – from classic materials to highly specialized materials like graphite or ceramics. This involves both the performance of individual tools and the interplay of all process parameters. Thus, the Innovation Center becomes the focal point for the development of customer-specific solutions and forms the basis for the implementation of holistic turnkey concepts.

Holistic, turnkey machining solutions

On this basis, ZECHA is specifically expanding its offerings and focusing on the entire machining process with turnkey solutions. Instead of individual tools, complete manufacturing concepts tailored to the respective application are in focus. The service comprehensively supports users in implementing demanding milling tasks – from the initial idea to the finished application. "We take a close look at the component, define the optimal strategy, and design tools and cutting data so that the customer ultimately achieves a safe and economical result," explains Yannik Zecha.

The range of services is modular and ranges from individual components to complete process solutions. The first stage involves component manufacturing in the sense of proof-of-concept tests. Based on a 3D model, ZECHA develops a suitable milling strategy, organizes the material if necessary, and produces sample parts under real conditions. Extensive measurement protocols ensure that the results meet the required specifications. Customers receive a reliable assessment of the feasibility and quality of their application at an early stage.

Building on this, ZECHA offers the development of customer-specific tool solutions. Especially with complex geometries or demanding materials, standard tools often reach their limits. In close collaboration between application technology and research and development, individually adapted tools are created that bundle machining processes, reduce milling times, and can significantly increase overall performance.

The third and most comprehensive expansion stage is the complete process development. In this process, ZECHA takes on all the steps necessary for the production of an optimal component – from the development of the milling strategy to the definition of cutting data, as well as possible adjustments to clamping devices or the manufacturing environment. This is complemented by detailed documentation, such as wear analyses or measurement protocols. Finally, the application engineers accompany the implementation at the customer's site.

"Our goal is to provide the customer with a holistic solution from a single source. With our turnkey service, our customers can save valuable time and resources," says Yannik Zecha.

Seminar room as a center for training and exchange

In addition to development and service, ZECHA also creates space for targeted knowledge transfer with the Innovation Center. The centerpiece is the new seminar room, which will be used for training, workshops, and events in the future. "In the past, we did not have the capacity to conduct seminars, such as our graphite seminar, on-site. We had to organize that externally. Now we can do it right here," says Yannik Zecha.

The modernly equipped room is flexibly usable and allows for different formats – from classic training sessions to product presentations and interactive workshops. The immediate proximity to the test center allows theory and practice to be directly linked.

At the same time, ZECHA is expanding its training offerings into the digital world: thanks to integrated camera, lighting, and streaming technology, events, live demonstrations, and presentations can be broadcast worldwide directly from Königsbach-Stein. In addition to lectures, live images from the test center and contributions from experts are included. In collaboration with the livestream hub of long-time partner AlienTools in Berlin, the content is professionally prepared and presented as interactive events.

The concept is complemented by AI-supported translations that enable cross-linguistic knowledge transfer. This creates a practical and interactive form of global customer communication – without geographical boundaries.

Strategic step into the future

With the ZECHA Innovation Center, the company combines its decades of expertise with the demands of an increasingly complex and globally connected manufacturing world. The expansion represents a clear strategic orientation towards even more application competence and holistic solutions. At the same time, the company remains true to its roots and consciously commits to the location and the region as a basis for sustainable growth and close customer relationships.
