The KNOLL LubiCool-XS is specifically designed for long-turning machines for micro-machining and targets users from the watch, jewelry, and medical industries with its new pump and filter concept.
With the retrofittable high-pressure systems LubiCool-S, -M, and -L, which provide the cooling lubricant under high pressure of up to 150 bar to machining machines, KNOLL already covers a wide range of requirements. However, the watch and jewelry industry, with its delicate parts made of high-quality materials, demands a special solution that KNOLL provides with the new LubiCool-XS.
As the name suggests, the LubiCool-XS requires only a small installation area and is designed to be low enough to be positioned under standard bar loaders. It is suitable for both new equipment and retrofitting existing machines - especially for machine tools for micro-machining. Thanks to its mobile design, it is flexible to use.
Like the larger models, the LubiCool-XS provides the cleaned medium with a purity of up to 25 µm to the machine tool for high-pressure machining. Chip management is positively influenced by chip breaking, thus ensuring a process-safe, fast machining process - even with demanding materials such as high-alloy steels, titanium, copper, or lead-free materials.
Proven high-pressure pump and new filter concept
The core element of the LubiCool-XS is a KNOLL screw spindle pump KTS, which generates pressures of up to 70 bar in up to seven selectable pressure levels. The provided flow rate is 5 l/min. The KTS pump is also characterized by low pulsation, low noise development, and high temperature and wear resistance.
The basic equipment also includes a 30-liter tank system, a transfer pump, four switchable high-pressure outlets, and an additional pressure-reduced outlet for flushing processes.
For the cleaning of the cooling lubricant, KNOLL developed a new concept based on an exchangeable filter bag with a filter fineness of 25 µm. The housing is lockable, which supports the safe recovery of chips from valuable materials such as gold. The filter is also characterized by a long service life and low maintenance requirements.
Options expand the range of applications
KNOLL has reduced the operation of the LubiCool-XS to the essentials. Thus, the pump and filter specialist does not include its own control in the basic equipment. However, the user is supported by an LED status light that informs them of the operating state through different colors and flashing frequencies, as well as alerts them to filter changes and cooling lubricant refills.
Optionally, the system can be equipped with the KNOLL control SmartConnect. Through an app, process data can then be visualized, pressure levels adjusted, and diagnostic and error messages read out. Alternatively, a touch display can be plugged in for commissioning and service.
Another option is the LubiCool-XS in a copper-free version, where all medium-contacting components are made from materials without copper content. This variant is recommended for particularly sensitive parts for corrosion safety and to avoid metal contamination.
Successful practical testing
Before market introduction, KNOLL made the LubiCool-XS available to several Swiss contract manufacturers active in the watch industry and medical technology. They tested the new high-pressure unit under series conditions - even when machining demanding lead-free brass materials. Their verdict: The LubiCool-XS can be quickly and easily put into operation and has been running smoothly for months. It impresses with its reliability in daily production, increased process safety, and improved machining quality.
