Siemens announced today the launch of the "Meet at the Machine" initiative – a new initiative that brings together machine builders, software, and automation technologies to accelerate innovations in the machine tool industry and help manufacturers become productive faster.

"Meet at the Machine" provides a framework for Siemens and machine builders to jointly deliver integrated machining solutions that address real challenges in manufacturing. The initiative aims to increase customer productivity as well as improve quality and performance. It combines engineering software, automation hardware, and machine expertise into one solution and supports machine builders in creating differentiated value.

Manufacturers today face increasing complexity, a shortage of skilled workers, and growing pressure to become productive quickly. While advancements in software, automation, and digitalization continuously open up new opportunities, many companies still face the challenge of integrating these technologies into efficient production processes.

Siemens is convinced that the next step in innovations in machining is to create a seamless digital thread. This connects engineering, programming, virtual validation, and execution to ensure productivity at a new level from the very first power-up of the machine. By improving the data flow throughout the entire lifecycle of part manufacturing, companies can reduce complexity, accelerate ramp-up, and create a foundation for continuous improvements.

"The machine is at the center of every manufacturing process," said Mark Hindsbo, Head of Operations Software at Siemens. "By bringing together engineering software, automation hardware, and machine expertise, we enable our customers and users to become productive faster, accelerate return on investment, and reduce ramp-up time by up to 50 percent."

The first phase of this initiative, developed in collaboration with TRAK Machine Tools, focuses on making part manufacturers productive from day one. It addresses one of the most common challenges when purchasing a new machine: the time span between delivery and actual productive machining. The solution combines software, automation, and machine know-how in a connected workflow that allows manufacturers to program, simulate, and validate production while the machine is still being built.

"When our customers invest in a new machine, their goal is to achieve productivity and business results as quickly as possible," said Steve Pinto, President of TRAK Machine Tools. "'Meet at the Machine' creates a new model of collaboration that is focused on customer outcomes. We are proud to be the first partner to help bring this vision to life."

Traditionally, many programming, validation, and training activities only begin after a machine is installed. The new initiative shifts these activities to an earlier phase of the process. This allows manufacturers to prepare for production even before the physical delivery of the machine, significantly reducing ramp-up time.

As part of the initiative, Siemens plans to develop further solutions in collaboration with machine builders that address central challenges in manufacturing through collaborative innovations.
