
The trade fair motto 'RUNNING! KNOLL AUTOMATIC.' gets straight to the point: KNOLL is not only a specialist in filtering and conveying in the metalworking industry but also a versatile automation partner for the entire process surrounding the machine tool. Three KNOLL highlights serve as examples at the AMB trade fair stand: the customized filter technology exemplified by a HydroPur, the completely new fully automatic coolant analysis and dosing system ControLube, and a KNOLL FTS that can be used not only for automated chip transport.
Anyone who wants to succeed as a metalworking company in this country must automate. This is evident this year at the largest national trade fair AMB at almost every stand in every hall. Automation is also the number one topic at KNOLL Maschinenbau. At the trade fair stand in Hall 8, 8C40, the Bad Saulgau company demonstrates how coolant (KSS) and chip management can be brought to the latest standards.
Nothing works without clean coolant

At the center of the trade fair stand is a Hydrostatfilter HydroPur 250, representing the diverse KNOLL KSS filter portfolio, which supplies chip-removing machine tools with cleaned coolant (emulsion or oil) according to requirements. The HydroPur filter is available in variants 250 / 400 / 700 / 1000 – corresponding to the different maximum filter capacities. With the various filter sizes come options regarding tank size, vacuum support, endless fabric (instead of filter fleece), magnetic roller, and winding unit.
Thanks to the modular design made of standard components, a customized filter can be configured that impresses with outstanding filter performance and fineness as well as an attractive price-performance ratio.
Process reliability through constant coolant quality
At the KNOLL trade fair stand, the HydroPur also serves as a practical example for the use of ControLube, the newly developed system for the automatic analysis and dosing of coolants. ControLube consists of a central mixing and control unit and decentralized analysis units at the respective filter systems. These continuously take samples from the clean tank of the filter and analyze relevant coolant parameters such as concentration, temperature, pH value, and conductivity on-site.
The measurement data is transmitted to the central mixing and control unit. This automatically prepares the required emulsion of water and concentrate when deviations from the preset target values occur and doses it as needed.
This keeps the quality of the coolant permanently stable – an important contribution to process reliability, tool life, and machining quality. At the same time, the manual effort for control and documentation is almost completely reduced.
Driverless transport systems automate the material flow / chip transport
In addition to media supply, KNOLL also focuses on the material flow around the machine tool at the AMB. The company demonstrates live how chip transport can be automated with a driverless transport system (FTS). For this purpose, a chip conveyor is set up that continuously transports chips into a collection container.
As soon as a defined fill level is reached, a transport order is automatically generated. The FTS brings an empty container to the machine, exchanges it in the so-called double-pick procedure for the filled container, and transports it for emptying. The changeover time is about one minute, during which the machine tool can continue to operate.
KNOLL provides all components and the complete process from a single source. How well thought out the system is is evidenced by one detail: To prevent coolant or oil from dripping onto the floor when changing the chip container, KNOLL developed a mechanical drip guard.
Another advantage is the independence of the FTS-supported chip disposal developed by KNOLL. The system can be connected to machine tools of various brands, thus creating continuous automation across the entire machine park.
And another advantage: The FTS used for chip disposal can also transport raw parts, workpieces, pallets, or material carriers and connect various processing stations. KNOLL is already implementing applications where components are autonomously transported between machine tools, robot cells, sluice stations, and downstream process steps.

Last but not least: Just in time for the trade fair, KNOLL opens its new customer portal myKNOLL. This provides all customers with a personal digital access to their systems, documentation, as well as to services and shop around the clock. The platform combines transparency, efficiency, and user-friendliness, making important processes available from anywhere. Visitors can test this at a terminal and register directly.
