The first edition of the Make-to-Order (MTO) Days on June 9 and 10 in Stuttgart achieved its goal from the perspective of the Association of the German Turned Parts Industry: to create a focused platform for order-related manufacturing. The association actively developed the trade fair concept in advance and was represented by around 40 exhibiting member companies.
184 exhibitors and about 1,400 trade visitors: The MTO Days consciously focused on quality rather than size at its premiere. This concept is also confirmed by the feedback from the members of the Association of the German Turned Parts Industry. They particularly highlight the clear focus on order-related manufacturing. 'Many visitors came with specific projects, drawings, or sample parts and specifically sought exchange with suitable manufacturing partners,' reports Stefan W. Schauerte, managing director of Wilhelm Schauerte GmbH & Co. KG. His company is among the 40 exhibitors that participated through the association.
Other association members also draw a positive balance. They received inquiries from toolmaking as well as from automotive, mechanical engineering, medical technology, and electrical engineering. Additionally, they noted a strong demand for small series. All surveyed manufacturers unanimously highlight the high quality of the technical discussions. These were strongly influenced by current industry topics. In addition to the ongoing price pressure, the focus was primarily on delivery times, material availability, batch sizes, as well as long-term supply security and reliability of suppliers. At the same time, it became clear that new material requirements, such as for lead-free brass alloys, are gaining increasing importance.
For the Association of the German Turned Parts Industry, the premiere of the Make-to-Order Days proves that specialized formats with clearly defined target groups can create real added value for contract manufacturing. 'In addition to business initiation, the trade fair has also proven to be an important industry meeting place where the capabilities of the German and European turned parts industry become visible,' says association managing director Werner Liebmann. Especially for buyers, the focused concept offers the opportunity to get to know numerous qualified suppliers with minimal effort.
