The KASTOsort tower from KASTO enables sawing and storage processes in tight spaces. The system combines highly productive sawing with intelligent sorting and storage – fully automated, flexible, and in 24/7 operation. Since its market introduction, the solution has not only convinced users but has also been awarded multiple prestigious prizes in 2024.
Automate sawing and storage processes even though the hall is already full? For many metal processors, this has been hardly possible until now. This is exactly where the KASTOsort tower comes in. It brings more productivity in minimal space and enables automation even where space is tight. A special feature is the newly conceived material flow: Previously, only the storage supplied the saw with long goods – now the saw also feeds a storage with cut parts. The workpieces are directly stocked and sorted according to orders.
The KASTOsort tower offers users numerous advantages that support them in optimizing their storage and logistics processes. As an independent complete solution, it enables reliable 24/7 automation, allowing workflows to be efficiently handled around the clock. Thanks to its high storage density in minimal space, the system significantly contributes to space savings. The flexible and time-independent retrieval of pallets also provides more freedom in planning and reduces waiting times. The ProControl system ensures error-free processes, while the KASTOlogic mobile app allows for seamless tracking of all processes.
In addition, the KASTOsort tower offers the option of individual integration with autonomous transport systems (AGS), making it a future-proof solution for modern intralogistics. The KASTOsort tower is particularly interesting for companies that already use a KASTOvariospeed or KASTOtec high-performance saw, whether with or without KASTOsort robots. Thanks to the combination of sawing, sorting, and storing, existing systems can be flexibly expanded and made even more powerful.
KASTOsort tower impresses in practical use
That the KASTOsort tower is not just a good idea on paper is demonstrated by its use at the Westfälische Stahlgesellschaft group. This includes trading houses in different regions of Germany and, with the drawing plant in Plettenberg, its own production of bright steel for high-quality bar steel products.
In spring 2025, KASTO installed the first KASTOsort tower at the Stuhr-Brinkum site (near Bremen) to complement an existing automated system consisting of a KASTOvariospeed C18 production circular saw and the associated KASTOsort robot. 'We are now significantly more flexible,' reports André Barsuhn, head of saw planning. 'We can now run up to 4,000 units continuously. That's great. Ghost shifts on weekends are also possible without any problems.' Instead of being able to use only three parking spaces as before, the company now has significantly more space for sorting and storing with the KASTOsort tower. The solution is ideal, especially for the frequently required diameters of 160 to 170 millimeters with cut lengths between 20 and 35 millimeters. The system was so promising from the start that the location in Löhne (East Westphalia) was also to be supplemented with it. In early 2026, the second KASTOsort tower was successfully put into operation there.
Multiple award-winning
The combination of efficiency, flexibility, and space savings did not go unnoticed: In 2024, the KASTOsort tower was awarded multiple times by relevant trade magazines. The awards confirm that KASTO has precisely addressed the challenges of metal processing companies with this system and provides a tailored solution. 'Our goal was to create a fully automated system for tight space conditions – and we have achieved that with the KASTOsort tower,' emphasizes Sönke Krebber, a member of the management team. 'The awards and practical successes show: We have hit the nerve of the market.'
