Sandvik Coromant has introduced four optimized indexable insert geometries for its CoroCut 2 high-performance concept for parting and grooving. The innovations include the ground profile milling geometry -RO for nickel-based HRSA materials as well as three improved parting geometries -CF-, -CS- and -CR-. The latter are characterized by a lower tendency to form burrs and edges as well as improved edge quality.
The parting and grooving concept CoroCut 2 is known for its quality, efficiency, and process reliability in a wide range of applications. It helps companies increase their productivity while simultaneously reducing their energy consumption and material waste. The portfolio has now been further strengthened: it includes geometries specifically developed for profile milling in demanding materials as well as for precise and efficient parting.
The ground profile milling geometry -RO is ideal for finishing operations in nickel-based HRSA materials and has been newly added to the CoroCut 2 series. New grades and a stabilizing guiding profile improve wear resistance and dimensional accuracy, allowing for tight tolerances and consistent surface quality. 'The -RO geometry has long been the most popular indexable insert of our CoroCut 1-2 concept. It impresses with its sharp cutting edge, tight tolerances, and high edge quality, which is crucial for demanding aerospace components,' explains Jenny Claus, product manager for parting and grooving at Sandvik Coromant.
In addition, the range has been expanded with three improved or newly developed parting geometries:
- Geometry -CF: The positively oriented, lightly cutting geometry has been optimized with the CoroCut 2 grades and the patented Flashlight technology. It allows for low cutting forces and excellent edge quality.
- Geometry -CS: The ground geometry with a flat face and sharp cutting edge minimizes burrs and edges. A guiding profile additionally supports this geometry.
- Geometry -CR: The versatile geometry with a new flat face reduces burrs and edges across a variety of materials. It is ideal when a strong cutting edge is required.
According to Fredrik Selin, product application specialist at Sandvik Coromant, the CoroCut 2 indexable inserts are characterized by the advantages of Flashlight technology, the guiding profile, and the high-performance grades. 'These features ensure excellent chip control, long tool life, and high stability regardless of the challenges in parting or grooving, even at high feeds and speeds.'
The CoroCut 2 range includes tools and indexable inserts for parting, external and internal grooving, axial grooving, and profile milling – from roughing to finishing operations. It has been developed for use with double-sided indexable inserts for all ISO materials and applications. Thus, it represents a versatile, sustainable, and cost-effective tool concept for today's demanding manufacturing environments.
