With a footprint reduced by 15% compared to similar models with the same workpiece capacity, the new Mazak high-performance lathe QRX-50 MSY, which celebrated its world premiere at EMO 2025, offers a compact yet powerful lathe that meets common market requirements with a maximum bar capacity of Ø51 mm and a center distance of 600 mm.

The QRX is ideally suited for the production of high-quality turned parts, such as hydraulic fittings, fasteners for aerospace, and other components for the supply industry with medium to large batch sizes.

The QRX-50 MSY is equipped with two spindles and two tool turrets. Both the main and sub-spindle offer standard high speeds (6,000 rpm) and a power of 15 kW. Crucially, both spindles deliver the same power, enabling shorter processing times and flexible machining without restrictions.

Both turrets come standard with milling functionality at 6,000 rpm (optional 12,000 rpm), an 80 mm Y-axis capability, and are equipped with 12 tools (24 positions) as standard.

The QRX-50 MSY also features a new BMT 45 tool interface concept, allowing the use of both Mazak's proprietary tools and standard tool holders. The symmetrical tool holder allows for the retooling of all tools for both spindle directions, reducing tool inventory and overall costs.

The machine is operated via the simultaneous 4-axis CNC MAZATROL SmoothG control from Mazak: A generous 19-inch touchscreen supports intuitive operation and can be split into a split-screen mode for better visibility – ideal for monitoring both tool carriers. The control also includes advanced features such as 'Virtual Machining' and 'Safety Shield' to monitor the tool path and protect against collisions. Collision detection is further simplified by manually traversing the movements with the handwheel.

Thanks to the ability to simultaneously process two workpieces, the QRX-50 MSY can reduce cycle times by over 40% compared to conventional lathes with single turrets – a significant advantage for manufacturers in competitive markets.

Additional productivity can be achieved through a range of optional automation solutions, including a workpiece unloading system for handling high-quality components, a workpiece ejector for the sub-spindle, and a separate automatic parts catcher for ejecting bar remnants.
