On Wednesday, October 22, EMUGE-FRANKEN will open its doors at its headquarters in Lauf near Nuremberg for the specialist workshop "Skiving Competence4". Together with partners FANUC, Unitech, and pL LEHMANN, the company will showcase a coordinated overall solution for skiving - an economical and precise alternative to conventional gear manufacturing.

Innovative comprehensive solution from a single source

The focus of the event is the live demonstration of the complete process chain for manufacturing small gears. EMUGE-FRANKEN contributes the cutting strategy with nine precisely coordinated tools, including the corresponding application data sheets for all machining steps. The company also provides the high-precision collet holders and the membrane clamping chuck for workpiece clamping.

Manufacturing will take place on a Robodrill machining center with the corresponding CNC control from FANUC Japan, while Peter Lehmann AG, Bärau/Switzerland, contributes a 4th and 5th axis as a rotary table. Unitech-Maschinen GmbH, Chemnitz, takes care of the automation and integration of the manufacturing solution. It relies on the innovative SkiveAll software developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU), Chemnitz.

Live skiving with quality measurement

The event begins with a presentation of the skiving/skiving process and the overall system "Skiving Competence4" by the participating companies.

Prof. Ruben Bauer from Mittweida University explains in his lecture on the SkiveAll software how the solution simplifies and optimizes the complex skiving process. Subsequently, Dr. Tino Freigang from Unitech presents the new interface between SkiveAll and FANUC-Robodrill, which enables skiving as plug & play.

This is followed by a live machine demonstration of gear manufacturing with subsequent quality measurement of the component.

Additionally, participants will gain insight into the production on-site during a tour of EMUGE-FRANKEN's manufacturing.

The workshop is specifically aimed at companies that still manufacture gears conventionally and are interested in skiving as an innovative alternative.
