The grade features a coating of approximately 9 µm thickness and is available for geometries L, KF, HR, and KR. The internally applied coating increases the heat resistance of the grade and supports a stable machining process even under demanding conditions. Users benefit from economical machining of various steel materials as well as short delivery times due to the in-house HiPIMS coating technology.

Practical tests demonstrate the potential of the new grade. When machining C55, a cutting insert of type S229.0600.L4 in IG96 achieved a tool life of 500 components under identical cutting conditions. The previously used version achieved 250 to 280 components. Tool life was also significantly increased when machining 42CrMo. A special cutting insert in IG96 achieved 534 components, while comparable tools reached 300 components. The higher wear resistance of the grade allows for longer tool life and reduces tool changes. Thus, IG96 supports productive and process-safe machining in numerous turning applications.
