For deeper threads

The German thread specialist BASS presents a new development in thread drilling at EMO: A highly spiralized tool for processing thread depths up to 4xD and to avoid chip stars.

When the chips no longer come out of the hole properly, it poses a problem. First for the machine operator, who has to remove the tangled chips from the hole or the tap. And then, due to the additional costs, it affects the entire production.

The problem is usually caused by materials that produce long chips or very deep threads (greater than 3xD). At EMO in Hannover, BASS presents the solution with the further development of its all-round tap DOMINANT VA45.

The highly twisted flute in the thread area of the tool shapes the chip and provides it with the necessary space. By reducing the flute spiral in the following section, the chip is effectively removed, thus avoiding tensioners like tangled chips. BASS refers to the change in flute spiral along the length as Dynamic Flute.

What makes the DOMINANT VA45 DF (Dynamic Flute) special is its ability to process very deep threads reliably. While thread depths of 4xD previously had to be processed in several steps to break the chip in between, the 'new' from BASS can go directly to thread depth.
