In September, the VDWF will launch a new free online format specifically for trainees – and those who might want to become one. In short presentations followed by a Q&A session, various experts will cover a wide range of topics from tool and mold making. The aim of the new series is to engage young talents early and strengthen them with practical knowledge.

Compact, practical, and directly related to the training routine in the workshop – this is how the industry’s young talents will be provided with interesting and useful knowledge during the 'Azubi up' sessions, which take place every Wednesday. The practical relevance is ensured by experienced speakers who address various aspects of tool and mold making. They convey tips and tricks in easily understandable half-hour presentations and provide insights into technology, materials, and processes.
'With the 'Azubi up', we are creating a low-threshold and free online offer specifically for young people interested in considering a training in the tool and mold making industry, or who are already in the midst of it,' explains VDWF Managing Director Ralf Dürrwächter. 'It offers participants the opportunity to learn directly from the 'old hands' in the industry and gain real insights into the exciting daily life of a toolmaker.'
Each short presentation is followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. With a total duration of only 45 minutes, the events can easily be integrated into the training or school routine.
First topics and speakers are set

The first five dates with their industry-specific content are already confirmed: Kicking off on September 17, Rainer Dangel, Managing Director of Dangel Formentechnik, will speak on the topic of 'Milling'. A week later, on September 24, Jens Kretschmer, Technical Director at Koordinaten-Messtechnik Iserlohn, will discuss 'Measuring and Dimensional Accuracy', before continuing on October 1 with the topic of 'Sustainability in Tool and Mold Making', for which Prof. Wolfram Heger from Reutlingen University will provide practical orientation regarding current developments and challenges.
In November, two more 'Azubi up' sessions are scheduled: On the 5th of the month, TVB Managing Director Andreas Rauchenberger will inform about 'Graphite in Tool and Mold Making'. Philipp Weber, Technical Product Developer at AHP Merkle, will share his knowledge about hydraulic cylinders a week later, on November 12. Additional dates and topics are already in preparation.
With the new format, the VDWF is sending a clear signal for the next generation. 'Especially in times of skilled labor shortages, it is crucial to support young people specifically,' emphasizes Dürrwächter, who invites companies and vocational schools to participate in the new format with their trainees.
All confirmed online dates are clearly listed on the VDWF website along with the corresponding speakers and presentation topics. For all 'Azubi up' sessions – which are, of course, free – you can register there:
