In particular, orders collected in the foreign market saw an increase of 24.7% compared to the third quarter of 2025, with an absolute value of 108.6. In contrast, the order intake in the domestic market recorded a decline of 7.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. The absolute index value was 14.3.
Riccardo Rosa, President of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, stated: "Domestic demand remains weak despite numerous ongoing negotiations. The uncertainty of the international environment and rising energy costs are significantly affecting the activities of companies in the Italian manufacturing industry, which are postponing their investments in anticipation of greater clarity." "We are therefore confident," continued President Riccardo Rosa, "that Italian demand will regain momentum, also thanks to the regulation on hyper-depreciation, which in its version 5.0 allows for better planning of investments that can be spread until September 2028."
"The activities of Italian manufacturers in the foreign market, on the other hand, have developed very dynamically. In addition to the USA, where demand remains particularly lively, Germany is also showing early signs of recovery – undoubtedly good news for the Italian industry sector."
According to data evaluated by the Centro Studi & Cultura di Impresa of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, in the first half of 2026 (latest available data), the main sales markets for the Italian industry offering were the United States (329 million euros, +12.6%) and Germany (137 million euros, +7.6%), followed by France, Poland, and Spain.
"Order intakes are particularly driven by the aerospace, defense, and energy sectors – regardless of the respective country," concluded Riccardo Rosa.
