The innovation lies in the globally unique, patented kinematics: The clamping lever initially moves horizontally to the point to be clamped on the workpiece. Subsequently, it clamps vertically downwards. This movement sequence allows for space-saving workpiece clamping with precise positioning.
Previously, machinists often had to add additional clamping points to components for such clamping tasks and remove them in subsequent operations. The new compact clamping device avoids the additional costs and extended process times caused by this.
It is particularly suitable for cast parts, tools, molds, and fixtures that need to be clamped in very narrow grooves, recesses, or pockets. Typical applications can be found in the multi-sided machining of cast workpieces made of aluminum or gray cast iron.
Precise and powerful clamping in tight spaces
The novelty is available in a space-saving insert design. It is offered either with a standard clamping lever or a blank that can be individually adapted to specific workpiece geometries. A quick fixation allows for easy changes and increases flexibility for different clamping tasks.
With a clamping force of 6.5 kN at a maximum operating pressure of 220 bar and a horizontal stroke of 8 mm, the hydraulically double-acting clamping element offers high performance despite minimal dimensions.
The vertical clamping stroke is 4 mm – clamping can be done at any position along the entire distance. This flexibility allows for secure fixing even with workpieces that have dimensional tolerances.
Process reliability through integrated controls
For maximum process reliability in automated manufacturing environments, the innovation is available in three versions. In addition to a version without position control, variants with pneumatic clamping or unclamping control are available.
Immediately available
The new compact clamping device with horizontal stroke is now available. 'We are solving a problem that many manufacturing companies know,' emphasizes Volker Schlautmann, Head of Value Stream at ROEMHELD.
'The patented kinematics enables clamping operations that were previously not technically possible or only with significant additional effort. At the same time, the installation position can be flexibly chosen, and the insert design can be mounted without piping.'
