Bystronic has signed an agreement to acquire the 'Tools for Materials Processing' business unit of the US company Coherent Inc.
The acquisition helps Bystronic to expand into other attractive growth markets, such as medical products, semiconductors, and general manufacturing. Furthermore, Bystronic's portfolio will be expanded with new laser applications such as micromaterial processing, marking, labeling, and drilling.

With the acquisition, Bystronic also acquires the rights to the well-known brand Rofin, which will be continued in the newly established business unit 'Bystronic Rofin'.
The versatile laser technologies of Bystronic Rofin enable the processing of a wide range of materials – from metal, glass, and ceramics to polymers and organic materials. In addition to synergies in procurement, the acquisition also unlocks know-how in research and development.
Domenico Iacovelli, CEO of Bystronic, states: 'With the acquisition of the Tools for Materials Processing business unit, we are expanding into adjacent application areas in attractive growth markets. This acquisition fits technologically and culturally very well with us, and I look forward to welcoming the employees and customers of Bystronic Rofin.'
With around 400 employees, the profitable 'Tools for Materials Processing' business unit generates annual sales of approximately 100 million US dollars. The headquarters is located in Gilching near Munich, Germany.
The transaction is subject to further approvals and is expected to be completed in the coming months. The details of this transaction are confidential.
