Yamazaki Mazak has introduced a new, particularly narrow 3-axis vertical machining center with a 30 taper, specifically designed for the high-productive series production of small to medium-sized components.
The new FF-400V/30 L has been developed to provide comparable performance to a machining center with a 40 taper, but with significantly less space requirement (only 1,630mm width). This allows the new machine to maximize the number of machines in limited production areas for manufacturing companies.
The machine is standard equipped with a table size of 600mm (L) x 400mm (W) and is optionally available with a 2-pallet changer and a 5-axis positioning table that allows a maximum rotation diameter of 530mm for components weighing up to 200kg.
The FF-400V/30 L is ideally suited for the series production of smaller components such as motor and inverter housings for electromobility.
In addition, it is excellent for further applications in mass production, such as in consumer electronics or watch and jewelry manufacturing.
High productivity is achieved through a powerful integrated main spindle with 18 kW and 12,000 min⁻¹ (optional 20,000 min⁻¹), combined with rapid feed rates of 60 m/min in the X/Y/Z axes. The fast acceleration maximizes machining speed over short travel distances and significantly reduces cycle times compared to comparable machines.
The tool magazine with 14 slots (optional 26) allows for an exceptionally fast chip-to-chip time of only 2.6 seconds. This is made possible, among other things, by the automatic tool changer without an arm and closure, which offers higher reliability due to reduced moving parts. Additional process reliability is achieved through the robust machine construction, which also supports efficient chip removal.
The FF-400V/30 L is equipped with the Mazak CNC control SmoothEz, featuring an intuitively operable 15-inch touchscreen. The integrated 'Thermal Shield' system for heat displacement allows the operator to flexibly adjust the machining parameters to the shape and method of machining.
For companies looking to automate their production, the FF-400V/30 L can easily be combined with a front-mounted 2-station pallet changer or a robot-assisted loading and unloading system.
