Contract manufacturers and machining companies know how important process-stable and flexibly deployable clamping devices are. Especially from batch size 1 and high part variance in custom production, short setup times and versatility are crucial. Since modern turning-milling centers turn and mill simultaneously, a reliable and flexible clamping tool for precise workpiece machining is indispensable – especially when geometrically indeterminate or irregular components need to be processed in the second clamping.

SCHUNK now provides an innovative clamping concept for these demanding requirements with the new power chuck ROTA THW3 2+2. This 4-jaw chuck features two independent pairs of jaws with subsequent centering workpiece clamping. This allows free-form parts, castings, or geometrically indeterminate workpieces to be clamped securely in the process. Thanks to the patented sealing, companies can use this 2+2 compensating chuck worry-free in harsh environments with dirt and fine chips. Moreover, users benefit from constant clamping forces and significantly longer maintenance intervals, leading to increased productivity while maintaining quality.

Four jaws for maximum flexibility

Following the manual chucks, a 2+2 jaw compensating chuck is now also available for power chucks, which is particularly indispensable for automated applications. The new power chuck enables centering workpiece clamping for any workpiece geometry, making it the ideal problem solver for complex workpieces on lathes. This flexibility allows workpieces to be finished on lathes that previously required an additional operation on a milling machine. The integrated quick-change jaw system allows users to quickly and easily adapt the chuck to new clamping tasks.

This results in a significant increase in productivity. The reduced maintenance effort due to the sealing positively affects lubricant consumption and reduces the amount of old grease; thus, SCHUNK makes an important contribution to resource-saving manufacturing processes.

SCHUNK will make the flexible clamping chuck available from mid-2026 in sizes of 230, 265, and 315 mm diameter.
