The 3D Metrology Conference (3DMC) celebrated its tenth anniversary in Aachen, one of the most significant locations for industrial metrology. Organized by the Werkzeugmaschinenlabor WZL of RWTH Aachen in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Loughborough University (LBoro), University College London (UCL), Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB), and TEKNIKER, the conference returned to its founding location at the RWTH Aachen Campus after successful editions in cities such as Hamburg, London, Bilbao, and Loughborough.

"The 10th international 3DMC returning to Aachen underscores its importance for the value creation of industrial manufacturing," stated Prof. Dr. Robert Schmitt, chairholder for Information, Quality, and Sensor Systems at WZL of RWTH Aachen.

Over 100 industrial users and academically renowned experts exchanged ideas at the conference, shaping the innovative and open character of the event. The kickoff was by Quidient, a company in the field of 3D imaging technology, which demonstrated how light and material properties can be captured separately through Generalized Scene Reconstruction (GSR) to create realistic 5D models for visualization and analysis.

Another focus was on a toolset for high-end calibration of coordinate measuring machines by SIOS Messtechnik GmbH, which is based on interferometry and achieves measurement accuracies in the nanometer range (<150 nm).

The diverse program also included a keynote by Prof. Heiko Wenzel-Schinzer (VDMA Length Measurement Technology), hands-on workshops, special interest sessions, and poster presentations. An industry forum with live demonstrations from leading companies such as AfM Technology, Ahlborn Measurement and Control Technology GmbH, Bilz Vibrations Technology AG, Hexagon, Metubiq, Mitutoyo, Ommatidia, Polytec GmbH, Quidient, SIOS Messtechnik GmbH, and Werth Messtechnik GmbH rounded off the event.
