With the introduction of the new BasicDrill Micro, EMUGE-FRANKEN continues its product offensive for solid carbide twist drills. The manufacturer of precision tools is now expanding the range of the universal drill with numerous variants for small diameters between 1 and 2.95 mm. Thus, the product line now covers sizes from 1 to 24.5 mm, depending on the version with drilling lengths of 3xD, 5xD, 6xD, or 8xD.
High Precision and Productivity
In the design of the BasicDrill Micro, EMUGE-FRANKEN has developed a number of improvements. Four instead of the usual two guiding phases over a length of up to 4xD ensure very precise guidance and high drilling quality even with demanding materials. This way, particularly soft bore walls and precise roundings are produced, which is beneficial for subsequent tapping.
The internal cooling channels and the high-performance coating also contribute to high process reliability.
Higher Cutting Values and Longer Tool Life
Also in the drill geometry, the Franken team sets its own accents. The result is, in addition to a new cutting edge geometry with a special rounding of the edges, a point angle of 130°.
The consequences are a longer tool life and longer service times, while the tool operates more productively, thus reducing processing times. Thanks to the improved geometry, higher cutting values and processing with feed rates are possible, which can be up to 30% higher than those of competitive products.
Furthermore, the new design optimizes the centering behavior, allowing for the omission of piloting and centering.
A 'Real' Universal Drill
The twist drill is available for different requirements in all three shank forms: HA with smooth shank, HE with inclined clamping surface for Whistle-Notch clamping chucks, and HB with lateral drive surface for Weldon holders.
As a universally applicable drill, the BasicDrill Micro can be used for a wide range of materials. This is supported by extensive testing with a variety of trial drilling in different materials. The comparisons provide convincing results across numerous materials. Thus, the twist drill is suitable for simple and stainless steels as well as non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum, as well as for hardened and difficult-to-machine materials.
"With this innovation, we have achieved an optimal mix of quality and performance at a very competitive price," explains Martin Steinbach, product manager for drilling tools. Target industries include, among others, the watch industry, precision engineering and medical technology, food processing, and general mechanical engineering.
Successful Twist Drill Product Offensive
Since EMUGE-FRANKEN launched its product offensive for twist drills with the BasicDrill in 2021, the sales of the segment have increased significantly. Following the first models of lengths 3xD and 5xD, the 8xD drills will follow in 2024. Previously, the company was primarily known for its high-quality threading tools.
