Knowledge exchange at the highest level

From June 1 to 6, hundreds of experts in refractory and hard metals from research, teaching, and industry will meet again in Reutte: at the 21st Plansee Seminar, one of the largest specialist conferences in the world in this field, the latest findings in the industry will be presented and discussed.

The Plansee Seminar includes scientific contributions that cover the entire powder metallurgy value chain of refractory metals, hard materials, hard metals, and their surface technology – from ore and powder to end products and their applications. Additionally, participants engage with possible alternatives to previous material solutions, future uses, as well as innovative and sustainable processes and technologies.

Heinrich Kestler, Secretary and Organizer of the Plansee Seminar, adds: “This year we are also celebrating a special anniversary: 100 years ago, the element Rhenium was discovered. For this occasion, we have put together a dedicated theme block.”

The 21st Plansee Seminar welcomes around 530 participants from 30 countries. Among them are representatives from universities, research institutes, industrial companies, or associations of powder metallurgy, as well as students. To provide young talent from scientific and technical fields with their own platform for exchange and networking, the organizers are hosting a 'Students' Dinner' for the first time this year.

Karlheinz Wex, Chairman of the Plansee Group, emphasizes the importance of scientific exchange at conferences like the Plansee Seminar: “It was the intention of founder Paul Schwarzkopf to increase knowledge through sharing. Innovations and collaboration in development are crucial to advance our industry, a fundamental requirement for success in the market. It is not enough to just provide materials and products. Customers need solutions to their problems.”

Industry meeting point with history

Since 1952, the Plansee Seminar has been held every four years at the headquarters of the Plansee Group in Reutte, Tyrol. It was initiated by company founder Paul Schwarzkopf and is considered one of the most significant conferences in the industry. The Plansee Seminar offers an open, international platform where participants regularly exchange ideas, share experiences as innovation and development partners, and strengthen networks.
