Numerous specialists and executives from the medical technology industry gathered in Seebach to learn about and exchange information on current developments, manufacturing solutions, and best practices. The seminar partners ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH, OPEN MIND Technologies AG, OTEC Präzisionsfinish GmbH, and DMG MORI organized a comprehensive, interesting, and very practical technology day.

A successful day full of innovations and practical insights.

The event impressed with a diverse program that ideally combined theory and practice. At the beginning, the DMG MORI team warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the main topics of the day. The focus was on high-precision manufacturing processes, which are essential in medical technology.

Best practices for programming, tool selection, and polishing were conveyed in concise expert presentations. The experts provided valuable tips for optimizing the machining of medical components – practical and directly applicable.

This was particularly evident in the statements made by Ralf Müller, Senior Application Specialist at OPEN MIND Technologies AG, who emphasized how crucial precise, safe, and economical CAM technologies are for medical technology.

"Efficient and innovative CAM technologies – how our software solution" hyperMILL offers - is the key to combining the highest precision with economical manufacturing in medical technology." This thought ran like a common thread throughout the entire seminar: Only with the right digital foundation can the high demands of the industry be met safely and efficiently.

The selection of tools was also discussed in depth. Andreas Weck, Product Management/Application Technology at ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH, emphasized the importance of the right tool technology when working with demanding materials such as PEEK and titanium:

"The right tool often makes the difference between good and excellent – especially with highly sensitive materials like PEEK or titanium." This practical relevance was impressively demonstrated in the subsequent live demonstrations.

Live demonstrations as a highlight

Special attention was given to the live demonstrations in the exhibition center. Participants were able to experience the machining of medical components up close – including intervertebral disc cages made of PEEK on an HSC 55. linear as well as a titanium bone plate on a machine from the DMP series. The live polishing on the OTEC vibratory finishing and electrofinishing systems also impressed with its precision and efficiency.

It became clear that the quality of surfaces in medical technology goes far beyond aesthetics. Sven Schmidt, Area Sales Manager at OTEC Präzisionsfinish GmbH, put it succinctly:

"Surface quality is not just a matter of aesthetics, but of function – especially in medical technology, every micron counts." His statement emphasized how closely manufacturing technology and clinical requirements are linked.

Behind the scenes

Another agenda item was the company tour, where guests received an exclusive look behind the scenes of modern manufacturing at DMG MORI. The highly advanced machines and efficient processes garnered consistently positive feedback.

Successful networking at the pre-event.

The evening before offered a joint dinner opportunity for relaxed exchange. In a pleasant atmosphere, new contacts could be made and existing networks deepened – a successful start to the seminar.

Conclusion

The seminar was a complete success and impressively demonstrated how innovation, expertise, and application go hand in hand in medical technology. ZECHA, OPEN MIND, OTEC, and DMG MORI presented themselves as competent partners for forward-looking manufacturing technologies – providing real added value for practice.
