With the CNC Flat and Profile Grinding Machine ACC42-SAiQ, the grinding machine manufacturer Okamoto has successfully placed a powerful and compact machine solution in cross table design on the market for flexible, universal use in tool and mold making for single or series production. Okamoto now presents the new development stage of the 'Universal Talent': Thanks to the motorized table drive instead of hydraulic cylinders, users can now grind even more precisely and energy-efficiently. With the switch to FANUC controls, the intelligent iQ control software, which allows even inexperienced operators to program complex grinding processes effortlessly, becomes even more versatile and user-friendly.

The compact design in cross table construction makes the ACC 42 SAiQ, with a grinding length of 400 mm and a grinding width of 200 mm, a versatile grinding machine, among others, in tool and mold making for economical flat and profile grinding of small components. Thanks to the cross table design, the work table can be moved in two axes. This makes the ACC42 iQ flexible for various grinding tasks, where workpieces can be precisely positioned and ground. The table-mounted profile dresser allows for the production of almost all profiles in tool and mold making.

Instead of the original hydraulic cylinder, the ACC42 SAiQ is now equipped with a motorized table drive. This is moved by an AC servo motor and a ball screw. This allows for a more precise, smoother, and energy-efficient movement, resulting in even more accurate positioning compared to the hydraulic table movement. Patrick Glasstetter, Head of Service at Okamoto: 'This allows the grinding function of up to five positions on the table at different heights and widths to be further improved compared to previous models. In addition to better energy efficiency and precision, the maintenance effort is reduced with the motorized table drive compared to the hydraulic system.'

The special V-V guide for stable precise movement of the longitudinal and transverse axes, as well as the low-maintenance automatic lubrication of all axes, has been retained. This reduces wear and guarantees long-lasting highest repeatable accuracy.

The innovative control technology iQ, integrated into the ACC42 SAiQ, simultaneously controls two NC axes. The user can set all positions with teach-in function via the color screen with dialog guidance at any time, even during operation. Thanks to the touchscreen and user guidance, no in-depth knowledge of grinding technology is required to program even complicated grinding processes. Therefore, iQ can also be easily operated by untrained users, as the software independently sets the best grinding conditions, thus shortening the programming and training times for employees.

Intelligent control technology iQ even more versatile

As part of the transition to FANUC controls, the IQ software has also been further improved: There are numerous new functions. At the suggestion of many users, it has also been made even more user-friendly. Furthermore, the display of individual screens is now sharper, and the response time of the control is significantly shorter. Most grinding and dressing tasks can be set and processed directly on the screen using easily understandable symbols. Only the values need to be entered; programming in text form is not required.

Patrick Glasstetter: 'With the new generation ACC42 SAiQ, both individual pieces and large batches can be processed flexibly. And this in the shortest time and with excellent surface qualities.'
