The face mill is easy to use and ensures high process stability and part quality. Its self-centering indexable inserts can be quickly and securely positioned. The multi-pocket insert design allows for the accommodation of different insert types, thereby expanding the range of applications.

Uncertainties in choosing the right tool for the respective task cost valuable time and can impair process stability and productivity. Unstable clamping and thin workpiece walls also make machining difficult. Furthermore, companies are always looking for ways to optimize processing, reduce scrap of indexable inserts, and minimize their tool inventory. With the Octomill 06 face mill, Seco offers an easy-to-use, process-reliable solution for roughing to finishing in any material.

Easy handling, long tool life

The tool interface of the Octomill 06 is based on double-sided indexable inserts. This improves the self-centering of the inserts and allows for easy, safe handling. Tobias Jakobi, Global Product Manager Face Milling at Seco, explains: 'The self-centering prevents the inserts from being incorrectly positioned, causing instability, edge and tool breakage, as well as costly downtimes or the need for rework.'

Additionally, the newly developed interface decouples the cutting edges from the contact surfaces and protects the insert seat from damage: 'Furthermore, the decoupling prevents excessively worn cutting edges from damaging or impairing other, unused edges. The single-sided indexable inserts can be indexed directly in the insert seat without removing the clamping screw.'

Octomill 06 is ideally suited for unstable applications, large overhangs, or thin-walled parts. The face mill features a stable straight cutting edge design and a high helix angle that reduce cutting forces, optimally balance, and improve chip formation. Users benefit from high part quality, a smooth entry and exit, and uniform wear across the entire cutting edge. The reliable self-centering of the indexable inserts ensures high runout accuracy and precise face alignment, thus enhancing surface quality.

Users can reduce tool inventory

The special multi-insert pocket design of the Octomill 06 is designed for three different types of indexable inserts. In addition to the OO.T0605 face milling inserts, a ROMT1605 round insert with 16 mm and an OOMT0605-MHF high-feed insert can be installed. This allows operations such as face milling, circular milling, and copy milling to be covered. A wide selection of cutting material grades and geometries ensures high machining performance in the Seco material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. This enables numerous applications with a single milling body, allowing companies to significantly reduce their tool inventory.
