The voice and solutions of the industry – under this motto, Global Industry 2025 gathers more than 2500 companies from the entire industrial value chain at Eurexpo Lyon. The focus of Starrag's appearance is the new VT, a vertical lathe that combines the expertise of the Dörries and Berthiez product areas.

For Berthiez, the trade fair is a home game: just a few kilometers from Lyon, the subsidiary Starrag S.A.S develops and manufactures precision machines for demanding applications in the aerospace sector and the renewable energy segment in Saint-Étienne. This is also where the grinding expertise that is part of the VT vertical lathe comes from.

The new VT series sets standards

The new series of VT carousel lathes combines proven Dörries technology with innovative solutions. A powerful direct drive in the rotary table enables dynamic positioning and thus reduces machining times. Hydrostatic guides ensure maximum precision, while the table substructure made of Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) dampens vibrations and remains temperature-stable.

In the VT 28 version, the machine is capable of machining large components weighing up to 17 tons with a maximum diameter of 2.8 meters and a height of 2.65 meters with high precision. With a flexible robotic tool handling system for 108 tools and various attachments, it is optimally designed for demanding applications in the aerospace and wind power industries. The concept is complemented by Berthiez's decades of grinding expertise, which guarantees the highest surface quality.

Healthy solutions from Switzerland

The company is targeting completely different audiences with the Bumotec 191neo, a high-precision machine with up to 7 controlled axes, used for various applications in the MedTech and luxury goods sectors. It is manufactured at the Starrag plant in Vuadens, Switzerland, and allows for the complete machining of highly sensitive components in a single pass.

26 minutes for the highest quality

Live at the trade fair stand, the production of arthrodesis plates for the lumbar spine will be demonstrated – implants that help stabilize vertebrae and correct misalignments. They are made from Ti6Al4V, an extremely durable titanium alloy that is indispensable in medical technology due to its lightness, stability, and biocompatibility. The Bumotec 191neo produces a plate in just 26 minutes. Thanks to its rigid construction and a highly precise milling spindle, flawless surfaces are created – without aesthetic defects that could become visible during subsequent anodizing. The ability to manufacture from the bar in a single clamping reduces sources of error and guarantees consistently high quality.

Especially with arthrodesis plates, a perfect surface is crucial – any reworking carries the risk of compromising dimensional accuracy and biocompatibility. Here, highly precise manufacturing is essential, allowing for fine structures without subsequent corrections.

Highest precision in minimal space

The new Heckert H100 rounds off the compact machine series from the Heckert product area at the top. With a pallet size of 1,000 mm x 1,000 mm and a maximum workpiece load of up to 4 tons, the horizontal machining center can machine large and heavy workpieces for which a large machining center would otherwise be required. In contrast, various savings can be realized.

They start with the investment in the machine and continue with transport costs, the foundation, and the required installation area, all the way to the machining process. With a footprint of 8,900 x 4,600 mm, it offers tailored solutions for highly productive machining, especially in the commercial vehicle sector and in high-precision mechanical engineering.
