ISCAR has developed an innovative interchangeable head concept for drilling under unstable conditions based on the proven SUMOCHAM. The SUMOLDRILL is equipped with a new locking mechanism specifically designed for challenging applications with interrupted cuts and asymmetric drilling.

For cross drilling, angled entry and exit, as well as cavities in the workpiece, the use of interchangeable head drills has previously been difficult, as self-locking could be released under these operating conditions. With the SUMOLDRILL and its special clamping mechanism, ISCAR has now mastered this challenge. Users can now work process-safely and economically even under such conditions with a flexibly deployable interchangeable head system.
The drill head is equipped with a symmetrical groove on both sides, which secures it in the robust seat. A clamping screw engages in a lateral recess on the head and fixes it. During drilling, axial and radial surfaces on the head holder direct the occurring cutting forces from the drill head into the tool in such a way that the clamping screw is not affected and the tool cuts smoothly. This prevents the drill head from loosening during drilling under unfavorable conditions. Despite the stable attachment, the user can quickly and conveniently change the head. Since the drill body remains in the machine, there is no need for subsequent re-measuring, and practically no setup time is incurred.
Stable process and good surfaces
The drill head is equipped with four guiding phases and chamfered cutting edges that enable process-safe use and long tool life. The double coolant ducts at the cutting edge and the internal channels in the 3D-printed drill body continuously transport a large coolant volume into the cutting zone. This effectively reduces heat and, together with the polished and almost straight clamping grooves, improves chip removal, while wipers prevent chips from sticking between the wall and the rigid drill body. This is made of high-quality steel, is wear-resistant and prevents vibrations, which improves surface quality. The new SUMOLDRILL is available in diameters between twelve and 19.5 millimeters and lengths of 3xD and 5xD.
