Investment in Automation

Sedotec remains committed to its further growth targets after record numbers in 2023 and invests millions in a modern, highly automated sheet metal production.

A new Salvagnini production line with an integrated high-bay warehouse and robot manufactures sheet metal parts on-demand and just-in-time from batch size 1 to series. A modular production management software optimizes the entire process. In this way, Sedotec, as a leading medium-sized system manufacturer in the electrical industry, responds to changing customer behavior and market situations. The investment illustrates the company's aggressive growth strategy, aiming to capture the top position in low-voltage switchgear.

"With the state-of-the-art Salvagnini line, we continue to position ourselves technically excellently and make ourselves competitively viable in the long term," says Dirk Seiler confidently and combatively. For the owner of Sedotec GmbH & Co. KG in Ladenburg, the direction is clearly defined. "We not only want to be an innovation leader but become number one in low-voltage switchgear." For this, the medium-sized company has invested four million euros in a high-tech punching-bending line from Salvagnini.

Largest investment in the company's history for the future

The Salvagnini production line S4+P4, which will be put into operation in 2024, consists of the components punch S4, tower MD, feeder MCU, bending cell P4, and robot SAR. The punching and bending units are fed via the MD storage tower with 8 compartments and unloaded by a KUKA industrial robot. "This allows us to produce just-in-time and on-demand independently of batch size and choose from a variety of formats and materials," says production and project manager Leonardo Torrisi. The responsible parties emphasize the importance of flexible automation.

Thus, the S4+P4 line punches, shears, and bends sheets completely automatically without intermediate handling. In addition to on-demand and just-in-time production, the system can increase capacity and speed at any time, reduce processing times, and handle various materials without retooling. The bending unit P4 uses universal bending tools that automatically adapt to the geometry of the panel during the cycle without the machine having to stop or tools being manually changed. This enables batch size one as well as kit productions and optimizes personnel deployment.

Reaction to changes for continued satisfied customers

In addition to flexible automation, Seiler places extreme importance on digital connectivity. The modular production management software OPS from Salvagnini optimizes the entire production process by exchanging information in real-time between the machine and the ERP/MRP. This way, Sedotec, as a leading medium-sized system manufacturer in the electrical industry, responds to changing customer behavior and market situations. "Increasingly complex orders are now placed on shorter notice and with tighter deadlines. We respond to this with this largest investment in the company's history and can continue to reliably deliver the highest quality to our customers on time," emphasizes Seiler before repeating his big goal: "We want to become number one."
