ISCAR expands its CUT-GRIP line of precision-ground solid carbide inserts and adapters with targeted cooling. The new tools are specifically designed for machining seal ribs in superalloys used in aerospace applications.

Seal ribs are geometrically complex structural elements in engine components. Their machining places high demands on tools, cutting materials, and cooling: the materials are heat-resistant, tend to form built-up edges, and put significant stress on the tools used. ISCAR addresses this with the CUT-GRIP tools specifically designed for this task.

The new GIFA cutting inserts are precision-ground and made from the most wear-resistant and heat-resistant cutting material type IC806. Equipped with an A-former, they reduce cutting forces, allow for controlled chip removal, enable top surfaces, and decrease temperature development. The inserts are available in cutting widths of 1.5 and two millimeters, as well as in left, right, and neutral configurations.

The robust CGPADFIN-CUT-GRIP adapters hold the cutting inserts via a fixed screw clamping. The insert seat follows the shape of the insert. This increases stability during engagement. The coolant guided by the tool targets the cutting zone, reduces thermal stress, and extends tool life. The adapters are designed for left and right basic holders and cover various insert configurations.

The robust CGPADFIN-CUT-GRIP adapters are equipped with internal coolant supply and hold the cutting inserts securely via screw clamping. ©Iscar
