Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme has expanded its portfolio of graphite machining tools with the Hexator. It is a six-edged tool with a lollipop geometry and a specially developed diamond coating. At spindle-friendly low speeds, the Hexator allows for high machining feeds. Its shape keeps performance and surface quality consistent across all tool contact points, as the contact point between tool and workpiece remains the same. This is especially beneficial when machining 90-degree wall surfaces.

Many companies that manufacture graphite electrodes are already benefiting from the specialized roughing-finishing tool Graftor. A customer project highlighted the need for an additional high-performance finishing tool. The completely newly developed tool Hexator is characterized by extremely high tool life, significantly reducing tool changes as well as setup and downtime.
With Hufschmied's tools, including the new high-feed finishing tool, the customer was able to reduce production costs by over 60 percent and cut manufacturing time to a third. Overall, this resulted in significantly lower component costs.
Coating in-house
Due to the lollipop geometry, the contact area of the tool remains constant even when machining 90-degree walls. The re-cutting, which occurs even with very short cutting tools with straight cutting edges, is completely eliminated. The Hexator achieves a clean and uniform milling pattern with dimensionally and shape-stable results. Hufschmied offers the Hexator as standard with diameters ranging from 2.0 to 12.0 mm, other sizes can be realized upon request.
Our specialists have once again proven that all aspects of a tool can be optimized for a process, from the shape to the cutting edge distribution and geometry to the coating,” explains Christel Hufschmied, Managing Director of Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH. “We are fortunate to have not only the technical expertise and experience but also all technical facilities in-house. This gives us the freedom to develop extraordinary tools and significantly improve processes for our customers.”
