With the EA-Performance System, MAPAL sets a new benchmark in fine machining. For the first time, an easy adjustment with only one adjustment screw is available even in the demanding diameter range of 10 to 19 mm, which significantly reduces the setup effort while achieving the highest precision.

Adjustment Concept as Key

For decades, MAPAL has stood for competence in fine machining. Classic fine boring tools work with two adjustment elements for diameter and cutting edge rejuvenation, thus achieving the highest precision. This sensitive adjustment process requires deep know-how from the operator on-site and was the starting point for the development of the EasyAdjust system in diameter ranges from 20 mm. With just one adjustment screw for the diameter and a rejuvenation integrated into a cassette system, it significantly shortens setup times while maintaining high dimensional accuracy and surface quality and minimizes sources of error.

In 2026, MAPAL will transfer the principle of adjustment with one screw into the technically demanding diameter range of 10 to 19 mm with a new design and will be the first company to introduce the new EA-Performance System for a wide range of materials to the market.

Technical Design for Demanding Applications

The constructive implementation of a stable cutting edge fixation with integrated rejuvenation in this diameter range places high demands on system design, manufacturing accuracy, and stability. It requires precise coordination of the cutting edge holder and clamping mechanics. MAPAL achieves this through an adapted constructive design of the interface between the cutting edge and the clamping system.

The core of the innovation is a newly developed indexable cutting insert with defined contact geometry, which, in combination with a matching clamping jaw, achieves a form-fitting and reproducible positioning of the cutting edge. The clamping mechanism between the indexable cutting insert and the clamping jaw transmits the adjustment movement precisely and ensures stable fixation under process load.

New Reference for Simple and Precise Fine Machining

For the highest precision requirements in small diameter ranges, the new EA-Performance System from MAPAL enables µm-accurate adjustment for the first time with easy handling and highest process reliability. Minimized correction effort, low scrap, and stable machining processes ensure high efficiency in applications such as high-precision fit and bearing drilling, for example in gearbox housings, cylinders, or on crankshafts and camshafts.
The system is already being used by selected customers, where the stable adjustment behavior and reproducible machining results have been confirmed in ongoing processes.
