Worldwide, MAPAL is known as a specialist in fine machining. The manufacturer of precision tools is now specifically expanding its product portfolio to include the area of pre-machining of slider bores in hydraulic components, thereby enhancing the options for customers to rely on complete tool solutions from MAPAL.

The slider bore is a central element in hydraulic components such as valve housings or axial piston pumps. Their finishing machining with fine boring tools has always been a core competency of MAPAL. The company's expertise is now also available for pre-machining, allowing customers to receive complete hole machining from a single source.

MAPAL distinguishes itself from market competitors by providing ready-made and customer-tailored solution packages for hydraulic components. These have been developed through intensive component management and continuously result in innovations. A current example is two tools that stand out due to their high process reliability and a range of technical features.

Pilot drill with three or five cutting edges

The pilot drill enables efficient piloting, thereby reducing work passes and saving tool changes. Flexibility in responding to customer needs is ensured by two versions of the pilot drill with three or five cutting edges. This is necessary to accommodate the varying casting qualities of the raw parts. With the new pilot drills, MAPAL is able to offer a standardized solution for every raw casting situation. The three-edged drill is preferably used under good casting conditions, while the five-cutter is applied in unstable or poor casting conditions. It allows for higher feed rates and delivers very precise results due to its high positional accuracy. Both versions ensure maximum cost-effectiveness.

Solid carbide reaming tool with three cutting edges

The three-edged solid carbide reaming tool is based, like the three-edged pilot drill, on a patented multi-phase technology that allows for clean chip separation and thus prevents turbulence and issues with chip removal. Additionally, targeted internal cooling ensures optimal tool life and process-safe machining even in deep holes.

Drilling depths of up to 10xD are possible

The multi-phase technology also increases the regrindability of the tools, thereby reducing the cost per hole. The reaming tool prevents the formation of casting rings that could lead to scrap at the customer. The robust design of the tools allows for drilling depths of up to 10xD, making them ideal for critical length and diameter ratios, such as in large valve housings.

MAPAL pursues a holistic approach in the machining of slider bores. The tools are not viewed in isolation but in the context of the entire machining process. The new tools are designed to be optimally aligned with the subsequent fine machining.

With the expansion of powerful pre-machining tools, MAPAL positions itself as a holistic technology partner in fluid technology and enables customers, through coordinated processes, not only high productivity and quality but also to source all machining steps from a single source.
